I came to my SL home to find that my house looked like it was sinking. It wasnt really sinking but the land my home and other buildings was on was raised up maybe 5 meters, my horse was burried, and all I could see was the tops of trees. No I thought, hmmm, maybe its somone who has access to my land that now hates me?? But upon further inspection, a few of my neighbors lands were borked also. I dont know any of these neighbors and they are not on my security access list, so just wondering how this could have happened.
How could something like this happen?

How could something like this happen? Check to see if you have land edit enabled. You will find it in 'about land' > 'options'. If you do, anyone can edit your land, so it is wise to have it disabled.

How could something like this happen? In Edit terrain, select the whole parcel. Click the "lower" circle. Then click "Apply to selection" until your house/horse is on solid ground again. Then in "about land" on the options page, unclick the box that allows anyone to edit terrain. No one hates you.

The horse is fine, but I this sucks my lolipops. Yes edit was on, however my security goes to like 100 meters so no one who I DONT KNOW would be able to land, well its all shot to hell, the whole place looks like crap.
I just had it landscaped.

Never mind house insurance, you might want to think about horse insurance.

I just had it landscaped. Anyone could have terraformed your land by disabling camera constraints, setting viewing distance to 256, staying on the other side of the sim from you, and moving the camera to your land.

I did that once to myself after I had joined land and then thought I was terraforming a 16 m2 plot I had added. Nope, I had all the rest selected and raised all up.
I didn't know if I should laugh or cry at the time, but it sure taught me how to terraform. I'm not afraid to do it anymore and enjoy it too.

i don't think they have to actually be ON your land to edit it if you have edit enabled. will test this out later if i remember

Right -- don't rely on security! There are far too many ways around it.
The other day I was installing a popular & very reliable security device, and a friend showed me that he could sneak by it. Surprising but true -- and this device uses the same method as they all do, using scans for avatars.
Even without this little trick, as mentioned above, anyone can just move their camera in and edit away.
Security scanners are useful but insufficient for protecting land edits and such. Even ban lines won't do the trick. Turn off editing! And be thankful that the damage wasn't worse than it was.

If you have 'Edit Terrain' enabled, your next door neighbour could have done this, as by raising their land, would migrate to yours and vice versa. As already posted, it can be done from virtually anywhere in the sim, irrespective of range within 512mtrs.

As already posted, it can be done from virtually anywhere in the sim, irrespective of range within 512mtrs. Well my land as well as the land of 4 others is still pretty much jacked up. Yes lowered so our pets can breathe, but jacked up none the less. The slates of granite that made a walk way to my ZEN garden are now leaning upwards in a stair way to heaven. Needless to say I am not feelingvery ZEN, I want to kill. I have messaged my landscape designers and I am sure with the right amount of Lindens, they will fix it quickly. But dar nit, I have to have the edit land enabled.

From: Jezabell Barbosa But dar nit, I have to have the edit land enabled. Why? If the land is group owned, you can allow certain members to edit land, not make it open to anyone in SL. Perhaps, if a Linden responds, you may get a rollback to reset the land?
