Does anyone know what I can do to make my AV stop walkiong in place, and just walking through walls, and out into space? I can be doing just fine, and all of a sudden I start walking in place, and can't do anything except log out and back in. And the just walking forever happens when I tp someplace and land, I start to walk, and can't stop. It's getting a bit annoying !
Thanks, Faith

Yes, it's lag.
Generally if you wait a few minutes the situation will improve at least a bit (since textures will have loaded). On the other hand if the lag is due to the presence of too many avatars your only choices may be to endure, or to leave.

If it happens ALL the time, it could be your firewall.

I think someone told me before on issues like this, the key is to cut down on some of the puter load.....graphics springs to mind, although i am sure other smart individuals here know better than me. I get it too sometimes.....lag lag lag...walking off like a zombie in a random direction...after a while you generally plip back to where you started....if not relog into a different less crowded sim.

On a less powerful computer I did that more often. It is lag, but you can cut down on *some* of it, it seems, by enabling your computer to process SL faster (someone more technically capable may challenge that, which is fine. It seemed to get a good result, so it may be worth a try.)
Go into preferences, graphics, and slide down the graphics to something more basic. Then relog, maybe even restart your computer. It might help.
Also some areas in SL are just more laggy than others. Textures, scripts, too much gesture spam, all those things can amount to more junk to be processed. ("Junk" - a very technical word!)
Good luck with it.

All of the above replies...and crossing sim lines too quickly will definitely cause you to appear to be walking off into never never land. Hate it! OH...just gotta love it when you so wanna be somewhere and tis known for its lag.
