I'm curious as I have not seen this in anything I have read thus far......

The new adult verification..... does it work souly on the avatar verified or the IP address itself. What I'm getting at is "Will their alts be verfied as well?"

Thank you.

No your alts won't be verified, they have to be verified individually.

You can make this a little less painful by validating a single paypal account. Then multiple AVs can make a purchase on XStreet using that Paypal account, and all will be able to access Adult areas.

They will not, however be "age verified". However, that flag is being used increasingly rarely (to flag individual parcels), since the whole Aristotle-mediated age verification mechanism doesn't work universally, and SL's code to maintain/check that flag is buggy.

Because of all the confusion, people need to be precise in their terminology. There's no such thing as Mature Verification, and using Mature and Adult interchangeably is wrong.

This may sound like nitpicking but it's not. When people get the terms wrong, it creates more confusion for others.

Indeed, which is why LL should merge any kind of verification into an account verified flag and end all the confusion.

Yes!

Here's the Jira to vote for:

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-4489 "Remove option to block access to non-age-verified avatars."

In SL, however, it is not all the same.

1) Age Verified means that you went thru that crappy Aristotle system and have been **certified** over the age of 18 (/me laughs at that).

2) Account/Adult Verified means that you have done the above Age Verification and/or have payment info on file and used.

#2 is a requirement in order to be able to enable Adult Search and such. Also you need this to get onto any parcel flagged as Adult.

However, any parcel, whether flagged as Adult or not, can set a flag saying that only Age Verified accounts can enter. In this case, even if you have given payment info and therefore can get to Adult content, you could not get to this parcel unless you had also done the Age Verification crap.

Likewise, a parcel can set a flag that says you can only enter if you have payment info on file.

And a parcel can require both - and still not necessarily be an Adult location.

Therefore, in SL, there really is a distinction in the various terms and they really can impact your SL experience.

Mature, adult, above the age of 18, old, elderly, drinking age may be the same thing to you but what Kidd was saying is that it IS NOT the same thing in the eyes of the powers thatt be at Linden Lab. The title of your thread was about "mature" verification.....there is no such thing in SL. You mixed mature with adult for verification........you can be mature and access mature parcels without verifying a thing. However you cannot access adult parcels without some sort of verification. To me it did not cause any confusion. But we get a lot of threads here about verifying your avi so you can access parcels that may or may not contain adult material or activities........that is AGE verification. Not verifying you are mature......actually quite different subjects.

If people would keep the two separated, as Kidd suggested, there would likely be a lot less confusion on the subject.

To add to the confusion, there are Region maturity ratings of PG/Mature/Adult, which have unique definitions to second life, different than those for movies or video games.

In addition, the search checkboxes *mostly* filter on the type of region the parcel is located on, but in the case of the Adult checkbox, it also filters certain words from your search query if not checked.

(But this comes from the same people that named the Adult mainland "Zindra", and *also* named a map region in Zindra to "Zindra";)

I'm not sure if you're just joking or were really annoyed by my post. If the latter, I'm sorry, but that wasn't my intent.

As you can see from some of the other followups, the real point is that we don't want other people coming after you to read this post (or any other post on the subject) and wind up even more confused. It's not correction just to show off that I can proofread; I spend enough time trying to catch my own typos.
