About pics in 'New Products'

When I surf 'New Products' it puzzles me that I can't see the pics when the advertisers use links to photos from 'Flickr'! Just "missing pic" instead. (both with IE and Firefox without extra installations)

Irritating, couse it's really common! Is this because I haven't got an Flickr-account myself? I have to go to "View Source" if I want a link to the pic (and most of the time I don't bother).

I use "Photobucket". I have no trouble with pictures from there or from somewhere else on the web.

It's strange! Does anyone have a clue why?

I think it has something to do with them not allowing direct linking to images. Dunno, but this has been going on with Flickr for a long time already, and not only on this forum.

I tried them before my ISP upgraded my webspace and it never was smooth. With most forums and blogs I am or have been member of, the Flickr site gives issues.

I could imagine Dutch forums blocking them though, Flickr, the way you say the word, would easely end up on the 'adult' list if LL was based here :D

personally it is very rare for me to bother following a link to a picture. I'm not sure why pictures aren't posted directly to the thread in some cases.

If there is a release from a well known designer, then yes, I might go to the effort of linking to their blog, otherwise I don't bother...even XSSL links aren't really worth it to me.

And for people who post in new products with just a slurl...pretty unlikely that anyone is going to go to your shop on the off chance that they might like something you didn't even bother to post a picture of. Just sayin...

I'm not a designer IRL, but I RP one on SL!

Thanks for the answers you two!

Well, then it's rather stupid to link pics from 'Flickr' at all - and 'big' designers do that a lot... So irritating with that little replacement X-pic....

Exactly! Pics in ads are everything. I never use a SLurl to look for a product in world if I haven't seen a pic! Sometimes to Xstreet, though.

This, except for me change "rare" to "not happening." If the poster can't bother to post a pic on an ad, not taking my time to check it out.

Wow! this is news. I advertised in New Products for a friend's store a while ago, and always used Flickr. I can see all the other Flickr pics there as well, but I'm in the US. So, is this true, can a lot of folks from Sweden and the Netherlands not see Flickr photos because some ISP is blocking them?

Who knew?

It could have something to do with Flickr's SafeSearch options. Depending on the overall filters that people apply to their accounts, this might me why some people are seeing pictures and some aren't.

Apart from this -

From: someone
If your Yahoo! ID is based in Singapore, Hong Kong or Korea you will only be able to view safe content based on your local Terms of Service so won’t be able to turn SafeSearch off. If your Yahoo! ID is based in Germany you are not able to view restricted content due to your local Terms of Service.
- there is also (probably more appropriate to the query here) this -
From: someone
If you aren't signed in to Flickr, SafeSearch is always on

I don't know what other ppl se or not but I can't see them - and I'm in Sweden... But my 'Internet Service Provider' isn't blocking anything! I also use different ISP's depending on where I am. And in Sweden it doesn't exist censure against any internet material...

And I don't use any high security level in my browsers - just normal - as most ppl.

This:

might be the problem... But I'm not going to get an account because of that...
