Hey.

I've been trying to figure out on and off how to create socks textures.. I mean.. how would I create striped socks, or socks with colored horizontal stripes at the top.. or white socks with grey patches at the toes and ankles..

Any one could hint me as to what "template" I should have in photoshop?

Lower body template. Part of the socks come from the legs, and part from the feet.

Thanks.. but I'm not quite sure what that meant.. I'm pretty new when it comes to clothes.

Look on the downloads page in this website. One part of it has templates for skins and clothes, that show you were things have to be lined up.

I'll advise going to the Livingtree sim and taking the free texture tutorial there, by Robin Sojourcer. That will teach you a LOT about basic clothing making.

You can also go to the NCI Clothing - Graphics Templates class. It is free, and will teach you how to make clothes.

You could make striped socks two ways.

1) Basic but easy - Create some new socks and apply a horizontally striped texture to the socks layer in 'appearance'

2) Realistic but complicated - Create the striped socks as a texture in Photoshop, using one of the free, downloadable clothing templates like CMFF. This gives better results, but the process needs to be learned - the steps have to be adered to exactly for it to work - but once learned, it's good. Then you upload the socks and apply them as a texture on the sock layer.

Once you know how to make clothing textures in Photoshop (or similar) it's great fun and with a bit of practice you can get very realistic results. The advantage is that you can use transparency to get the exact clothing shapes you want. Just using the sliders in appearance gives a limited range of clothing shapes.
