Curse of the Phantom Green Dots

I have recently started to notice phantom green dots on my Minimap, you know, the ones that indicate other avatars in the region. All the green 'dots' are in fact the green downward carat, indicating that the avatars are below me, but when I go down to the ground level to investigate the region is empty!

Standing on the same spot as the dot, the Minimap tells me that the dots are beneath me still (that is underground folks)! Scans of the sim using MystiTool also confirm that the region has only one avatar in it, me, so where are these phatom dots coming from? I have also noticed that they are not always in the same place each time I log in. Quite baffling.

There is a bug where people at excessively high altitudes (I think over 1000m) show as being down-chevrons versus up-chevrons. You need to fly higher.

I've seen them, too. Was out on the Blake Sea last weekend and found one, so I jumped out of the boat and walked around on the bottom of the lake looking for it, the map showed I was right on top of it, so I moved a little and turned around 360 degrees still looking for it, I never did find it and the map indicated it should be right there.

Not to derail...but combine the high altitude bug with...

the popular technique of hiding traffic bots in invisiprim boxes, and you'll see exactly this "phantom green dot" phenomenon.

Some users of traffic bots are quite inventive in their placement.

There is a bug with altitude. As soon as you pass a certain altitude - something around 1000, it shows you as a "V" marker even if you're below that person.

If you're using the Mysti-tool's scan sim command, remember that by default it only goes up to 768m. There is another command (which I can't remember) that tells the scan sim to go up to 4096m.

One way to know for sure the number of avatars in the region is with the stats bar, it will list the number of avs. Parent and child, parent is the # who are currently actually in the region. Child avs are ones who either just TPed away or are looking in from a neighboring region.

To unhide, try Advanced|Render|Info Displays|Occlusion (and/or BBoxes).

Not exactly the same but I have noticed the same thing in the Blake Sea a few times with a twist. Green dot on minimap, they show up on sensor and you can get within a couple of meters of them but no one is there. Seems to be a similar phenomenon to Avatar Ghosting.
