Hello,

Can anyone point me to a place I can get a freebie (or very cheap) 'updo' hairstyle for formal occasions. I'm still newbie & have very few $. I have plenty of free long flexihair but it doesn't go well with a ballgown.

I have searched on 'freebie hair' and 'freebie updo' etc but am still struggling - most places seem to be very expensive ?.

Thanks

The freebies are on the left side of the Teleport zone where you land

Might want to try ETD, which has a 1L$ wall (haven't been there lately, so I don't know if they have any up-do's) and also Savoir Hair, which has freebies and 1L$ hair.

ETD: http://slurl.com/secondlife/ETD%20Isle/194/192/31

Savoir Hair: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Granymyr/201/137/28

ETA: Also try the clearance section at Bewitched Hair:

Last time I went to Gurl6 they had a few updos for free and 1L. You might want to try there too.

You've had other more conventional and possibly helpful responses already so please forgive my perspective on this but a reality check for a moment. Newbie does not automatically mean poor!

A typical "expensive" hair might cost L$350 or...$1.25 US. Is that expensive?

Depositing say $10 as a one off payment really lets you get a few very nice items to get going with, without looking/feeling like a newbie for too long.

Just my view. Always happy to help inworld either way.

Hi Flutterby. You were rezzed on 8/6, so are too late for most of the newbie free hair deals. But, for the sake of other newbies who may read this, if you ever are less than 30 days old, stop off at the Free Dove and go to their hair section. On the wall there you will see "coupons" that allow you to select ANY hair from a few generous hair sellers. I remember both Tami McCoy and Gurl6 having coupons there, which are also available at their stores. I think Digit Darkes also has a 30-day newbie deal, as does Adored (who has a few good hairs in addition to her excellent large clothing store).

Have fun!

Bewitched Hair has a monthly sale/hunt. A large number of their items are marked down to 50 or 100L, and there are also many hidden L$1 specials.

Sassy, I agree entirely, but at the moment I'm hoping / aiming to keep my RL and SL totally separate. It's not easy tho. I sometimes find in RL, if I'm tired, that I just want to stop, hang my head and click on 'away' .....smiles

Not freebies but cheapies:
I found there is a pre-relocation sale going on at Frangipani atm with some updoes included. Packs of 2 or 3 shades for L$20 - LS30 and demos are free. Think clothes were in the sale too if you are interested but I didn't have time to check those out.

There's also Savoir Hair, which has a ton of dollarbies in it, no matter what your age. Most are full color packs too.

(not inworld for a good slurl)

I have to admit this attitude frustrates me. There are many reasons tht one cannot put money in world.

From my perspective :

I am a full time student who does a small amount of part time work in order to live and eat and pay my bills. I dont have a lot of money. SL is my social outlet and it is my entertainment, without SL I would just be watching TV becuase i couldnt afford to do much else to be honest.

And before anyone comments on havign a computer tht runs SL and the net ... The computer was a gift and i need the internet for university as i do many courses externally (i live an hour and 20 minutes from campus)

I know that $1 US isnt that much in the scheme of things, but for many people even putting $10 US into SL can be a struggle.

flutterby try joining some of the inworld freebie groups like freestyle and fab free. Both of these have notices going out about designers handing out freebies and this can mean a stylish wardrobe for very little (L$1 here and there)

Thank you Eclectic! Many, many reasons indeed.

Another reason for not purchasing $L may be the fact that a person doesn't have access to a credit card.

When I started SL, I wasn't sure that it was for me or if I'd be staying. There are so many wonderful freebies out there that it doesn't make sense to buy a $L if you're not yet sure of your place in this virtual world. I didn't buy $L before I was 6 months old and I existed on freebies, camping and slingo/zyngo winnings until I felt comfortable enough to buy them.

I'm not sure that buying or not buying L$ has anything to do with that, Flutterby. After all, if you choose not to buy L$, you have to earn them somehow, which means an investment of your time (usually much more time per L$ than it would take to earn some RL cash and buy L$ with it).

It's not an SL/RL question, it's a question of how do you want to spend your time. If you ENJOY making things, or pleasing people in exchange for tips, or whatever...or if you just like trying to "beat the system", that's fine. If you'd rather shop and explore and party, then it makes sense to reserve your time for those things and buy L$ with your credit card.

I'm fairly free with my L$ spending and I think 350L for a single color hair is not just expensive, it's ridiculously expensive. Out of more than a 100 styles in inventory, I have exactly two I was willing to venture into that price range for, and one of those I thought about for several weeks first...it's gorgeous, but not exactly the sort of thing you can throw on every day.

Note to the majority of hair creators out there: If you want me to pay 350L for your creation, you need to include at least three color options in the pack and it had better be mod too...resizing scripts don't cut it with me. They really don't protect you from being copied by a determined thief either, so what's the point?

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
