OK hey again guys, another question to baffle ya' with!!

Well I have a mate in RL, whose kids would like to play secondlife, I burst their bubble by telling them they couldnt.. and then told them they could play teenage SL. BUT! When I try to create an account for them, it says use paypal, (I'm from UK and so are the kids)

Why do they need to use paypal if they don't have it? They're kids lol..

Please help - would hate to disappoint them!

the payment information is used as a weak form of ID, to help discourage adults from signing themselves up anonymously as teens. Yes, it's a little weird when there's no real barrier for a teen or kid to sneak onto the main grid, but there it is.

Not unless they purchase Linden dollars or convert their account to premium, in which case it will draw from whatever payment info is linked to the account - in this case, YOUR paypal account.

I believe there is a function somewhere in account settings to remove payment info, which you might want to try after the account is set up.

I hadn't used my Paypal in a while, so I don't know for sure. However, I don't think you'd be allowed to use it if you used it as the form of payment for you adult grid account.

Seems kind of silly that they gave the kids hoops to jump through to play on the proper grid, but left the main grid free and clear. Gee, wonder which one the kids are going to use?

You're creating an account for someone else's children?

The payment information on Teen SL is required because LL will just forward it to the proper authorities if they find an adult on the teen grid.

If they get into any kind of trouble it'll be your information LL passes as a result of a subpoena.

If your friend's children want to get on Teen SL, have the parents put in their payment information and don't put in yours.

Is it actually illegal for an adult to be on the TG? I know it's against the TOS, but if an adult hadn't actually harrassed anyone on the TG, what would "the authorities" do with their information?

I don't think it's illegal.. there are some adults there for various reasons and I'd assume those few adults are watched like hawks and must provide RL information to get on there. In case one does slip through the cracks and causes problems. Then it becomes an RL issue for the RL police.

That's a question for LL :p.

There are adults on Teen SL but they're there with LL's permission so that's fine (and they have to consent to a background check by LL before they're allowed there and even then they're heavily restricted still), but I'd guess it's mostly a deterrent or to simply file it away (or some scrutiny in case the individual has a history of such behaviour).

Arg dash it. this is insane!

I'm about to bring almost 40 new teens into a new sim on the teen grid for educational resons, including streaming live, big name events (connections eh). all of my students will be 18 within the next 2 years and thus move to main grid and (hopefully) become useful, functioning, paying SL members. How in (insert deity) am i going to get them in. i doubt asking thier parents for paypal details will go down well, if they have them.

so. If i can't get a solution to this the teen grid is a sim down (and 10 more within 6 months dedicated to cool educational/event type stuff!) and a load of talented new members...

awesome :/

Dredd, you might want to talk with a Linden concerning this. Last account I had, Blue was probably the one you'd want a chat with.

I helped my friend's son set up an account on Teen Grid. It asked for either payment info OR a telephone number... have the kids use their phone numbers.
