This is a bit off SL topic but it's the best place I can think of to go right now to maybe get a quick answer.....cause I know a lot of you are techies....

I have Pcillin...and my firewall is up and security settings are all as they should be.... but today after I fired up my pc and did my usual email check and SL account check... Something happened! I went to myspace to check for messeges which I rarely do, and that's where it seemed to begin.

I've been getting random pop ups ever since. I close explorer.... and still every 5 minutes or so a web page of some sort opens up!! This is drivng me batty!! I have cleaned up corrupt files and deleted cookies and you name it. The pages are still popping up....anything from shopping adds to music video pages. Does ANYone know what the hell I can do here???? (I'm afraid to log in world until I get this dealt with!)

Pretty good chance Spybot might not get rid of it either. It should find it however. If spybot finds something, you remove it then the thing still comes back you need to start Windows in safe mode and then run Spybot from there. That still might not work. Some of the new scamware adds a program that will reload the program over and over so just removing the original will not work.

You can try going through your Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs List and see what is in there that you don't need anymore. Toolbars are bad. (assuming you have a PC and Windows XP/Vista)

hi

i normally run spybot search and destroy and ad-aware. what one misses the other seems to catch. haven't had problems yet. also use any internet program other then internet explorer. not because they are better or more secure but because they are not micorsoft. what i mean is most of the bad things out no the net are written to take advantage of IE. i use firefox my friend uses netscape.

on a side note go to your cookies folder and empty it if you haven't already.

C:\Documents and Settings\me\Local Settings\Temp (empty it)

C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Cookies (empty it)
