Is there a way to hide your presence on the mini-map? I don't have a problem with the avi being visible, but there is someone that knows my main places to stay (including my land) and will camp out near them to see if I appear on the map. I'd like to be invisible there so that they do not know I am on, when I am around.

*sighs* Ok, thanks a lot. I figured it was worth a shot.
And I can't ban them from my land, as they are not on it, but are next to it. It is just irritating knowing I'm being watched.

If you can persuade them to take some of these wonderful SL drugs I've heard about. Apparently it blurs their RL vision and confuses them. Then you can make them really high, about 30,000 metres high.

The RL blurring of the vision is caused by a pounding real life head that feels vaguely like tiny pigs are slamming sledge hammers into it.

I have seen it done, I think. Yesterday, actually. I was approaching a small shop and saw an avi in the upstairs window... then I realized he wasn't showing on the mini map. I cammed in and poked around. a bit. I could pull up a profile on him (which proved to me it was a real avatar and not a nicely-sculped statue), but even leaving then re-entering the sim didn't make him show on the mini map. My only thought was that he was some sort of a bot that can be made to not show on the map... but if a bot can be made to, so should an avatar. But I'm unsure how. This happened to me at Build a Better Mousetrap in the A Part No More sim. If someone else wants to go take a look, feel free. And if you figure out how it's done, please share.

I thought it wasn't possible, but seems it is... Let us know how if you arrive to know the way to do it

My only suggestion ( besides shooting them or waiting for them to get bored and leave you alone) would be to move up into the sky ...away from all of your other neigbors, and buy a security orb. Then set it so it will attack just the one avatar when they get within a certain set range (which can be done) Or you can stay on the ground and set the security orb to attack just the one avatar if they get too close. But I'd move into the sky because its a bit harder for them to spy on you.

The 'invisible on the map' avatar you saw was likely a 'ghost' of an avatar. Sometimes, when a client crashes, the server sort of 'misses' the fact that the avatar left the sim. When you suspect that, if the avatar is not responding to chat, and you suspect it's some sort of bot, but it has a profile with info in it, try walking into it, and see if you bump it. If it's a 'missed' avatar that the server thinks (at least partly) is still there, the avatar will be phantom. I was detecting an avatar at the same location for days, and after investigating it turned out to be a 1/2 gone avatar. Times like that, you might see the avatar, but it wont show up on the map, (or it might), or it might (or might not) show up on your av scanner. When that happens, the 'ghost' will persist until the avatar either logs back on, or the sim is restarted. I think it was an issue with my sim, because a day or two before a rolling restart blew through and clear it, another had appeared nearby, making me think it might have been an issue with the code on the server. Either way, they both disappeared after the sim was restarted.
As far as programming a bot to not show up, I doubt that's possible. The client just sends needed data to the server, and the server handles putting the dot on the map. I dont know of a way it can be done, unless you have the capacity to fool the server that you're a linden with invisibility on, something I doubt is every easy to do. So, technically, it's definately possible. Lindens have the ability to turn visibility on and off at will, truely (and fully) hiding the fact that you're logged on.

One of the little things that annoy me about SL is in many cases when someone is being griefed or harrassed, The best solution is for the victim to, move to another parcel, put up a wall, put your home in the sky, etc. It seems the person on the receiving end always bears the brunt of an idiots action. Beyond Linden policing the grid extensively, which they aren't capable of, nor would most of us want it anyway, there needs to be a way for these jerks to be held accountable.

Personally I think I'd log on, ban them, mute them, wait for them to appear and then go afk for an extended period......... probably much like watching paint dry lol Inc
