Suffering like us all I guess with delays in SL of course the fault might lie with Linden, but I refer to the delay, lag, I get when arriving in a new area. On top of the delay when everthing looks ok, I usually find one persons clothes not displayed, they are in a while/black sort of default track suit. Sometimes I'm told I'm in that state but look ok on my screen, Ctrl-alt-R can put me right but not allways. Is there anyhing I can do? Love, June

Adding more memory to your computer is a cheaper way to improve your performance.

What is your draw distance set to in your preferences? I often reduce it right before I tp to a mainland location, and then increase it once I have landed and initially rezzed. That quite often helps in the more crowded sims.

Most modern pcs with 1GB of ram and a 2Ghz cpu are ample, less even, SL does not really tax these components. The big differences (bottlenecks) involved in what you speak of are in video card and connection areas, one you can do a lot about, one you cant. Once SL has about 1.2Mb of stable bandwidth it cant really deliver things like images, landscapes or whatever much faster with more, so at *least* a 4meg dsl line will cope with that (depending on provider, distance from exchange, wind direction etc) however if your PC has a cheap video card or on board graphics then chances are you can improve upon how you machine handles crowds and high particle areas. Itll even look better. Unless its a laptop then maybe not, can really say more until you post your machine spec, but thats kinda what you should look at.
(but not much you can do about the missing texture problem, we all suffer with that, complaints about that go in the jira)

June. From what you've said about your hardware, it seems adequate to give you decent frame rates and performance. It could be faster but that would mean spending a lot more money, which is 100% optional. I've spent about $4000 on my rig but I sure don't expect anyone else to do this. I just hate lag with a passion. Computers R my hobby !
