Will a Rez bxo solve this?

EEk....

I'm in the process of re-doing my studio and I decided to buy a building I've been eyeballing for some time. I rezzed it earlier on my sky platform, only to discover it did NOT come with any kind of rez box. Can I attach one....or rather HOW do I put it into a rezzing box? The building rezzed in one piece, but in the absolute wrong place and I had no way of knowing that when I drug it out of inventory. (silly me, I thought it would be like every other building I've put up so far)
It's 'no modify' and once it was rezzed...it was also entirely UN-linked.....and it does not allow me to link it. I'm hoping this is a huge over sight on the creator's part but thus far he has not replied to me (I know...it may take time and that's ok) But if I can solve this on my own, I'd like to. I do have copy permissions so there's still another in my inventory.....so if anyone can tell me a way to attach a rez box, I'd much appreciate. I was under the impression that since I now own the building..I would be able to link and lock it.....but it seems I cannot as it stands.

I bet you wish you had typed box instead of bxo.

You might be able to drag select the whole thing and move it all at once.

When rezzing unlinked objects, be in edit mode, then you should be able to move it all in one piece.

drag select all and then move, or if this is a problem, delete bit by bit, then Cmd-3 to open edit window, rez and move while all selected. adding to a rez box i have no idea, but if its no mod, maybe it isn't a option.

Well, if it's no-mod, you wouldn't be able to link it... and the usual solutions (RezFaux, etc.) would need mod permission in order to put a script in each linkset, to respond to positioning commands from the rezzer box.

I'm curious what this thing looks like in Inventory: is it the little "pile of blocks" icon of a coalesced object? (and are people really selling builds that way now??)

[the following is just what SuezanneC said... but she types faster :o ] Anyway, assuming it's a coalesced object... if you open the Editor before you rez it, it will be in the Editor and you can move all the pieces around as a group. Or, you can just drag a selection rectangle around all the already-rezzed objects and move them around (but that's pretty difficult if you own other objects in the vicinity... even if you use Tools | Select only my objects, it can be hard to keep from catching a tree or something along with the build).

Yeah...well..... hind sight is 20/20 here...I had no way of knowing it wasn't in a rez box...hence I had no way of knowing I was gonna wind up with a pile of unlinked prims. LOL Not sure about select/dragging em all....never tried that before and with 117 prims...how am I gonna select em all at once?

(LOL box, bxo, all the same when you're frustrated lol)

get your view point above the build, make sure it is all in the middle of your viewer with space all round it, ie zoom out. then open edit window cmd-3 and click outside one of the corners of the build, then just drag the cursor over all the build, this will select everything, it may even select the sky platform, so you may want to remove it first.

Um, ok

It's in the sky...so there's nothing around it to accidentally select...but in my inventory it shows as a single box prim...and being a new building I figured that was the rezzer box....as most builders sell their stuff that way so folks can position them as they like once they're set down.
But...yeah...we all know that......... this just apparrently didn't come that way....and further more, because it's all unlinked...I will have to lock each and every prim if I want the thing stable once I get it positioned right. I can't tell you how many times I moved or took a wall by mistake when trying to place furniture and prints...... back in my noobish days before I learned to lock down buildings once they were set! lol

It doesn't make any sense to me tho......I really hope this was just a goof on the creators part and he'll get back to me when he can. *sigh*

This is pretty interesting. And strange. I'm thinking that this object is somehow scripted to unlink itself on rezzing. But why? (I was drifting along in the direction of rezzing it on no-script land so it couldn't unlink itself... but then what? it's no-mod, so can't stop scripts from running in it... not getting very far down this path, I'm afraid. :( )

Doesn't the stuff built before the "coalesce" feature still do this? Especially if it was placed in a vendor before that feature?

I dunno. I pull stuff out of my inventory in one big bulk too. They're usually things that I picked up somewhere along the line and never poked at. They show as one box in inventory, but I should have had edit open at the time of rezzing.

I know that in a prim's contents (not user inventory) I can place a coalesced box (shows multiboxes or broken boxes, whatever you want to call them in inventory) and the contents show it as one box, not a coalescence. Perhaps that's what happened? Prim inventory instead of user inventory?

Actually....I had one house a while back the rezzed as un-linked.... I don't get it either...but that one did have a rez box. I have no idea how that is supposed to work.....but now that I have my studio placed...I'd really love to be able to lock it so I don't screw it up while I'm trying to move stuff around inside it....LOL I'm tired....perhaps I shouldn't even try tonight.

Yeah, when something rezzes out unlinked it's usually defective. Only a complete idiot wouldn't have it in link sets. That being said, I've run across times where SL will let you link things that are actually too far apart. It all seems fine until you take it and try to re-rez and it all falls to pieces on rez. I really enjoy it when that happens. :(
