Hmm, the announcement said that concierge level folks would get added to the group if they had less than 25 groups. And I misread it and made a post about it.

It would have been the right place if you had oepened your own Thread with that question.

And no, in the eyes of LL only one person can be the owner of a private island.

I'm assuming the only place that checks is when you try and join a group - if LL add the group directly into their databases, that will bypass the check.

I believe the only reason they don't want to extend it is because every time you enter a parcel, it has to check if you're in the right group to enter, build, run scripts etc. If you increase the number of groups, you exponentially increase the number of checks it has to do. Also, group messaging will probably fall over completely if they are increased.

We need a collective entity that doesn't do things like that, maybe for and only for messaging. Maybe call it a channel.

That's really going to get into the differences behind the purpose of a lot of groups. In many cases, their sole raison d'etre is to allow several people to build on a plot with autoreturn enabled, and maybe set home there.

Sometimes it's to restrict / allow access to parcels.

In other cases, it's to allow group chat, in others it's for notifications like product updates. And of course, sometimes it's for some but not all of these reasons.

Forcing all of them to use the same "group" mechanism is very convenient for the user, but it does lie at the heart of several issues with SL at the moment. On the other hand, let's not forget that the reason for this thread is actually because of a group that will be used for access restrictions, not for group chat.

Just curious Mari, did you receive your invite yet? My partner hasn’t as of yet, the support ticket has not been addressed. Wasn’t sure if this was the norm

Not to derail this thread too far but why would it exponentially increase the number of checks?

I don't think we know what info the sim has on avatars but if it knows what groups each avatar is in (vs having to ask the asset server each time) then it should be a linear increase in work for the sim to do this check - going to 26 groups doesn't mean 25 times more work, it should be an extra 1/25th of the work it's already doing.

And, if the sim doesn't have this info on hand and has to ask the asset server, why wouldn't it be a semi-simple 'is this user in that group' query?

As mentioned above they probably just did a manual add so if you leave it or any other groups or try to join a group it will perform the check and you won't be able to join.
