is the current state of Lag in SL our new standard?

its darn near making it impossible to play. I have had FPS as low as 1.1 the last 3 days in a row. And thats with a new computer with a decent card, I managed 11FPS once last night.

I ALSO am seeing tons and tons of invisible avatars. (dozens) Most annoying. I keep plugging away. But this place really makes it hard to love it sometimes as of late.

its been crappy since the last viewer update, ever since the 1.20.17 9886 one....
just needed to rant about not being able to build or do a thing of any detail without pulling eye teeth it seems.

It may be the switch to llNet. Frank will fix it. He's just gotta twiddle with his knobs for a few weeks.

Agree completely though not sure when it started---I went back to an old third party viewer as the only solution for me. Hell- I once had a frame rate of .6...

I have not noticed any lag beyond the norm.

It depends on the region. Most places, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. The 1.11 viewer runs great for me.

Some places though, there is an issue:

http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-2329

Apparently this is addressed in the next version of the server software due to be rolled out pretty soon now. I think next week to some regions.

I've not had any major increase in lag recently.

Dumb question, but how do you "see" an invisible avatar? I'd like to know more, Are you referring to that weird thing that happenis with "avatar impostors" that causes avatars at a distance (sometimes too short a distance) to "fade out" of view?

I'm guessing we're talking about the "mist ball" phenomenon here.

And, for the record, it's possible to disable avatar impostering in Advanced Graphics Prefs.

I think what Ciera is referring to is something I've also been seeing a great deal of lately. It's not mist balls (the 'new Ruth') but instead you see the person's name (and group title, if they're wearing one), and it moves around as they move around; but you don't see the person under it.

I was at Cupcakes today and that happened. I stood in the vicinity of one 'invisible avatar' for fully five minutes before she suddenly popped into view. It wasn't even like the bug where avatar attachments render but the avatar doesn't, like this:

http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii300/sl4nowt/mar_oddities24.jpg

The entire avatar was invisible, hair, shoes and all. Besides which, it was in the very early hours SLT, my connection was super-fast (even ran a speed test to check) and I had my Network slider all the way over to 1500, and for almost three minutes after arriving at Cupcakes, the store and everything/one around me looked like this:

And sculpty shelves weren't even rezzing properly, despite trying the right-click-on-it trick:

http://www.inworld4nowt.com/blogpics/lagalicious02.jpg

It took about ten minutes before those rezzed fully. So I would agree with Ciera that at least today I had a far more laggy experience than usual.

My framerate recently is as good as it's ever been.

btw if you're seeing a lot of avatars Ruthed or invisible, try switching your active group. That usually forces the avatars to rez. I have no idea WHY it works, but it does, every time.

I am doing the *Bunny Hop* hunt. It's hard to tell what an egg is when everything is gray. So far I have been to 67 different sims and yes, some are much more laggy than others. One sim wouldnt let any of us move to get inside of the building. It must have been a no walk zone, we all had to zoom and sit.

We got bit by misc-2329 pretty badly for a few weeks - begging for a region restart a few times seems to have mostly cleared it up but the times still don't look quite right to me.

I think something else has changed with child agents, too - I've been seeing counts that don't quite make sense vs when I see on the map..

Ciera, I've noticed that I have to do a ctrl-alt-del, sort on User processes, and stop all the major CPU-heavy programs before I start SL. If I don't do that, my lag is unbearable. If I do this, then SL is smooth as silk for me.

Something has changed recently - lag is noticably worse all the sudden.

This happened around the time of the latest Viewer release.
