Alternate account question

I didn't think was worthy of a support ticket but was hoping someone else may have had this happen and would be able to tell me if there's a way to find the answer without bugging LL.

An alternate account was created for my household and I believe a wrong/mistyped email may have been used when it was created. Hence there was no way to activate the account unless some stranger happens to have whatever email was typed in and got the verification instead! Thus far the account isn't active because it can't be logged into.

So two questions. If the account isn't verified with email it shouldn't count against our basic user limit of five alts, true? And is there any way (other than attempting to log into that account) to find out if it has been activated, as in a way to check which accounts are connected to our household?

You could search for the avatar name you created in world, if you find it then the account is active, if not then no problemo.

Edit: fixed 3 bloody spelling mistakes in one sentence.

I'm puzzled here, you got into the forum here with your User Name and Password so can't you get into SL?

Click "Community" above the "My Account" and the "Contact Info" amend the wrong e-mail address.

Sorry if I missing something.

There's a five limit still? Huh.

Well, if the limit is still in place, then yes, an inactive might still count against it. Reasoning? Well, if a canceled one still counts, then so should the inactive. Of course, this is using logic, so it might not apply ;)

Sorry I think I understand there are 2 accounts, you post here on the first working one.

Now if extra seperate accounts opened how do Linden know how many in total?

Honestly, I have no idea. Used to be I assumed that it was via IP or credit card.

I do know that after 06/06/06, the limits pretty much lifted, no matter what the website says. I also know you don't have to pay for alts. I figured the 5 account limit also vanished, given the number of bots out there.

LL seriously needs to make up their minds and either change the website or enforce their policies.

I don't think there is any limit now, other than a limit on the number of accounts that one person can create in one day.

Do not think that.
Different people could be using same PC with their own seperate accounts. Also I think some ISPs have different IP each log on to the internet.
My RL friend has her account with no CC info given to Linden, she gives me cash then I buy and transfer in world to her.

I thought it was five (5) per email address. Who knows though, stuff keeps changing.

Nope - I had 3 accounts that did not get validated because the emails did not get delivered. I only created them because I wanted the names. All three showed in search with the proper creation dates. Finally one day (a month or so after creating them), I called SL and explained the email problem, validated some info on who I was, got one of the account passwords reset, and logged the account in.

Best I know, the only ways of getting a password reset is
1) Use the password reset function on the web login screen - which will not work if they have the wrong email on file or if you have never actually used your payment info
2) Call LL

There used to be a 5 per email limit, then there was no limit, and then, when I checked back a month or two ago, the Knowledge Base said this:

From: someone
Currently, you can create as many additional Basic or Premium accounts as you want to pay for, with the following limitations:

* You can create up to five accounts per household.
* You can create no more than two accounts in a single 24-hour period.

Given the odd phrasing - as many as you want as long as that isn't more than five per household - I suspect the limits were added back in without really revising the rest of the entry.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

I wonder how they determine the "per household" though -- payment info, email addresses, IP address?
