No - you can change land textures if you are the estate owner or manager. Of course, I'm assuming you own an estate....do you?

Are we stuck with the ugly green mottled land we are given? (purchased?)

Nope.. textures for terrain are sim-wide so you can't change just for your parcel. However if yu own a private island you can chage it to wahtever you want.. even pie

I'm a mainlander... for now anyway. After reading the horror stories, I'm afraid to buy private land.

nonono.. to change your own terrain you need to own a WHOLE island..a full sim ^_^

private land in parcels doesn't do it either, as you can only change it for a whole sim at a time

If you want a horror story, just picture what your mainland would look like if every Joe could color his terrain the way he wanted. It's the same reason you can only terraform +/- 4 meters.

Yeah gotta have an estate to change your terrain. I'm afraid you are doomed to the life of a chicken on your mottled green default land. Sorry! You can come to my sim and envy my terrain!

you can however use prims for ground and texture those hatever you want.. once SL is back up I can send you a sculpt I made for flat ground that works rather nicely.. I've made it into grass for my sky shop, a beach over that evil mottled green, and snow before.. it looks lovely ^_^

I appreciate it. Send me an IM / Landmark so I can find your shop.

My land was high, all the land around mine was lowered. I tried to lower mine to match and now I have a big spike in the corner of my property. I'm thinking of raising it again to remove the spike.

I have learned more about 3-D graphics in the past two weeks than in all my years of hacking and playing with computers. (photo-shop costs too damn much)

Do you know that there is a student edition of Photoshop that costs MUCH less than the retail price? If you're not a student yourself, you could, hypotetically, ask some student or teacher you know to purchase for you :) .. hypotetically or course.
