I enjoy sl as a premium member. Purchased a new Toshiba Satellite laptop primarily to use sl and other advantages of of having a computer.

The computer has an ATI Readon 200M graphic display card.

It seems to do every thing you can imagine. Even run other virtual worlds. But it errors on the final sl program load with adapter incompatible or drivers out of date. I have the latest drivers.

Did anyone ever get sl to work on a Toshiba Satellite Laptop computer? How I wish I could just replace it at once. It is otherwise a great machine, but useless for sl.

Kindly notify me if you can help. SLWayneAscot@Yahoo.com

Is this machine by chance running Windows Vista?

I hear that ATI and Vista are a baaaad combination for SL.

I currently run SL on a Toshiba Sattelite laptop - 17" monitor, same video driver as yours - I use Windows XP. The only time I have problems is when going wireless or on slow DSL at work - otherwise at home, no problems.

I believe there's a command line option you can specify to force SL to use your drivers without the compatibility check. Hopefully this jogs someone's memory who's used it here...

Sl run fine on Vista, its not that, it is the old ATI drivers that dont work

Go to ATI, download and install the current version of Catalyst, and all should be fine

hmmmm like he stated earlier his graphics card drivers are the latest, as are mine, yet still efforts to run SL are stopped by "not supported or up to date"

i am interested in this command line hardware bypass stated earlier? anyone remember how to do it or what to put in?

hmmm actually the a135 is the same model i have, was there any certain things you had to do to get SL to work? Or did it just happen to work just fine after installation?

the specs i'm running are intel duo core 1.6
1.4gig ddr2
128 ati radeon 200m
vista basic

It might be -noprobe

(Right click on the SL short-cut and add it at the end with a space in front of it so it doesn't stick to the last thing that's there already. If the last thing there is ".exe" and ends with a quote, make sure to put any space *after* the quote)

hmmm yes it seems to disable the hardware probe you have to add -noprobe at the end of the command line

ex.
"yadda yadda yadda.exe" -noprobe

it didn't however work for me however, i still get the same error message "graphics card out of date or unsupported", who knows though this might be the solution of someone out there.

Unfortuantely this also happes for NEW graphics cards as well as old. THis happened with the 8800 when I got it and later with the 8600. Basically any video card not on the "approved list" that comes with SL gets this error message.

I absolutely LOATH programs what use this mechanism when simply giving the warning then ALLOWING the program to continue if the user asks it too works perfectly a lot of the time :( A NEWER card has a very high chance of working out of the box but LL just wont run at all :(

That would be a good option to add to the open source virwer. Have a button that says "run with default settings" on that error dialog and continue anyway.

Is there a specific error message? :confused:

From: someone
Second Life is unable to run because your video card drivers are out of date or unsupported. Please make sure you have the latest video card drivers installed. If you continue to receive this message, contact customer service.
Only seems to come up as a result of:
From: someone
// We don't support cards that don't support the GL_ARB_multitexture extension
llwarns << "GL Drivers do not support GL_ARB_multitexture" << llendl;
return false;
Which would make it a bad driver issue.

(Edited to add: just found http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/extensions.html which might help to spot the difference between a bad OpenGL driver and SL being weird?)

Mine worked fine right out of the box with SL,but I have a A135-S4527. Those specs don't sound like mine.:)
