I thought there was a refund of part of your annual premium fees if you downgraded. Is this a myth or is there a time limit?
I just downgraded and was told it wouldn't take effect until the anniversary date, which is still a couple months away.

It's never been refunded in the 2+ years I've been here.

I can't imagine any deal where you pay for a year in advance to get a price break leading to a refund if you quit before a year is up. If you haven't done a year then your dues would be at the monthly $9.95 rate unless the year was waited out as LL is doing.

Oh, I thought I remembered hearing people talking of downgrading and getting a partial refund. And I thought that's how First Land scammers operated.
It's not a problem. They can keep the money. It's just that storming off in a huff would be so much more satisfying if it'd take effect now and not months from now. Like, storming off in a huff isn't something that works on delayed gratification ![]() |

And I thought that's how First Land scammers operated. Nope.. They only paid one month of premium, which cost less than what they could sell the first land for. _____________________

You can downgrade now, and huff all you want. But LL will still keep the money.
(Or you can be sensible, mark your calendar, and continue to collect stipend until the day before your renewal date, and push the button then.) _____________________

Next month will mark five years in SL for me, and I've never heard of anyone receiving a refund for downgrading early. This is how it's always been. Sorry you didn't realize that.

You know, I found a telephone call works wonders in situations like this. I joined SL in October, 2005 with a different avatar and went premium about a week later. Then in February, 2006 I decided I wanted a new avatar and wanted to transfer my premium account to this one and downgrade my original to basic. I called them to ask how to do that and got some quite good advice that saved me some money. It turned out that what I wanted to do was right smack in the middle of my quarterly pay period and the person I spoke to on the phone set it up so that on the next payment date (about a month and a half away) the switch would happen.......my first land was swapped to this account, the stipends started coming to this account and I was premium and my original became basic. Really quite simple.........so call them. They don't bite and they even help when they can.

no refunds. also, if you click "downgrade to basic" you are stuck with that decision until your renew period comes, and goes.

On the bright side, if you're downgrading because you don't need your stipends you can get some of your money back by selling your excess L$ on LindeX.
