The one thing I always seem to be stumped on, is naming new outfits.... That being said, last night I put a pre-release pic on my blog of a new outfit I am working on, with a contest for naming it (the name I pick will receive the set for free) My blog still doesn't get a lot of attention so... if anyone would be so kind to pop over and have a peek and comment on it with a suggestion for a name I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks a million PS in case you have sigs turned off here is the blog address http://rhadesigns.blogspot.com/(second thing on the blog, first is the "helping a friend" post I duplicated here as well...) And... also.. this is a question and not just a request... so... Just how do you come up with a name for an outfit?

When you get the answer, let me know. I had the same problem with my shoes. I've added your blog to mine Rha

Very pretty Rha! I posted a couple of suggestions. ) How I name things....well I used to write a lot of poetry. One way I would find a special name or word would be to think of what I wanted to portray. Then off to the thesaurus I'd go. I would start with what instantly comes to mind and then search the thes. for it. If I didn't find that word but I got close, I'd choose the close word and look it up in the Thes. Eventually I will find the name or word I'm looking for this way.

honeybear thank you (what is your blog?)
MoxZ cool, I will try that on the next thing I make names has always been the hardest for me, naming items, clothings, places, events, characters, etc
heck Rhaorth is just a bunch of random keys on the keyboard. In a game previous to finding SL, I was having a hard time getting a name, got frustrated and just started hitting keys, Rhaorth was in the sequence of keys, it jumped out at me, I took it, I liked it, so I carried it over to SL when I came here, and Antonelli just looked right to me... so.. as they say the rest is history
recently upon searching Rha on google, I found out that it is a RL band name LOL
go figure..

As a clothes-shopper may I please humbly suggest that you try to include at least a trace of description in the name?
A dress called 'Angelina' for example might sound pretty, but once it is in my inventory, I have no idea what style, colour or even type of item it is. And will therefore not wear it often and probably not feel very inclined to shop for more, see.
How much better is.... Angelina - Short summer dress in Green or ..... Angelina - Flowery top and black pants
And including you store name helps too, as I rarely can remember the name of an outfit, but may well remember the store...
Bill's Clothes - Angelina-Pink Ballroom Gown with Ribbons ~~TTT~~ Angelina Skirt in Blue with Cream Blouse and Matching Hat
I have countless outfits in my inventory that I never wear for this very reason.
Thank you *gets off her soap box and goes clothes shopping*

ETA: I left a comment on the blog with a couple of name suggestions.

The name just comes out of nowhere- I know that is hardly informational but I mean to convey that it just appears. I set out to make one I called Peel Me A Grape because of a song...
Some are very obvious- some are not - My Mardi Gras Queen a friend gave me a photo of her in New Orleans standing behind one of those fiber glass float things and that gave it the name though the result is no where near a Mardi Gras theme. I think basically the thing just speaks to you.

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
As a customer I don't really mind -what- anyone calls their item if it's made well, looks good, or does what it's supposed to do. It's probably the attractive picture on the wall or fashion blog, or recommendation that led me to the item in the first place, regardless of name. I realise choosing a new name must be difficult once you've made the umpteenth outfit though. Themes can be good, for instance the Calla hairstyles names after flowers.
Can I also second (or is it third by now?) the plea for a colour mention in the inv description of outfits as I seem to have to relabel many clothes to organise my wardrobe sensibly.

Thankfully I do name them with the store name and color etc... thus... for say the latest release the plaid set I named them Rha! plaid skirt blue V1 Rha plaid skirt blue V2 Rha! plaid legwarmer blue (L) etc (sadly it was after I made them, packed them up to be sold that I came up with the name "Lil Miss Plaid" so at least the ad has the name LOL ah well they are mod/copy so people can rename if they please sometimes names do jump out at me, other times they take forever... I have done the other language thing.. bella merletto is beautiful lace in italian (I think it was) Darjeeling was actually named by Morpheus Linden, and I liked the sound of it so used it, even though it is a name of tea LOL (He said it reminded him of tea *shrug*) I just liked the sound of it But being I have such a hard time naming stuff, and I am sure Morpheus doesn't need a female outfit LOL, I decided to turn to those here and those who read my blog for assistance and inspiration and I was not let down!! Thank you guys! PS I will add your blogs to my blog lists if you want to post your blog link here (and if you want to add mine to yours that is fine too)

I make abstract sculptures and I named the first few after the way they made me feel when I looked at them or the way i wanted other people to feel when they looked at them. One was called 'Carefree' for instance.
Then I did a series of flexible moving sculptures and I named them after winds.. 'Sirocco' was one.
Clothing might be a bit more of a problem though... I guess I would just open a dictionary at random, find a word, and then do a sort of free association until i found something i liked. Sometimes its good to go completely to left field. (I am not explaining this very well).

Oooh yes Cristalle - I have to say that that is one of the things that, to me, marks a 'professional' designer. So convenient

I never thought to do that, as I would just put on the outfit and take a snapshot myself and stick it in there, that way I knew what it looked like on me and with what items I liked with it heh
