Easy question for those who know the answer! My land is held by a group consisting of myself and my functionary robot. All the tier is contributed by me. Because of a buy/sell overlap, my tier payment is higher this month but I've got the group landholding back to the lower level now and I want to reduce my tier contribution. Apparently I need to do this otherwise the payments stay at the higher level. Anyway, I typed my new tier limit in the window on the land tab of my group's info pop-up and all went OK. But in the section on this site about group land there is warning note with a red circle saying that you need to set the contribution to 0 (zero) to reduce group tier payment but it's a bit ambiguous. I'm a bit loathed to try this in case I've got hold of the wrong end of the stick and something HORRIBLE happens!

I'm pretty familiar with tier and group donations and all that but I don't quite understand your question so I'm just going to answer a bunch of random questions and hope that yours is one of them. You need to reduce your tier donation to the group before you can lower the amount of money you pay LL monthly. I'm sure you know that to do that you go to the Land & L$ tab of the group, type in the new amount you want to donate and then select Apply. Double check the amount you are donating in the Members list. Now you should see spare tier in your My Land tab and under "Available for Purchase" on secondlife.com/account. Now you can go here: http://secondlife.com/account/landfees.php, scroll to bottom and the appropriate radio dialog should be un-grayed, you can select it, and click save changes. Now you'll still get billed the larger amount in your next bill but the one after that will be the new, smaller, selected amount.

Thanks. That explains very well. I know I have to pay the extra this coming month. Whar confused me was that the explanations of group tier on this-here website say something about needing to enter '0' as your contribution to the group or you'll keep paying the old amount. That didn't seem right to me but that's what it appears to mean. Anyway, I've checked on the link you gave and my tier is now calculated at the correct lower level, so it says.

One thing (at least) about group tier contributions:
The tier you donate gets inflated by 10% when the group gets it. When you reduce tier donations, the group loses the reduction + 10%.
Reducing group donations in order to reduce your own tier needs a bit of maths when there is 0 to low unused tier in the group.
