I own an 11,776 sq m plot of mainland - it is 'Group owned' but the other group member contributes nothing.
BUT when I look at my contribution in Group info it says it is just 11,497 (what I also don't understand is in Group info it says my 'total' contribution is 12,646)
- so there's an unaccounted-for 297sq m !
In 'my account' on this website - it shows my peak land-use as being 11,497 too, despite the fact that I actually own a plot that's 11,776 in size! Wierd eh?
Can anyone explain this?
It would be good to know what my genuine peak land usage REALLY is!!

You get a 10% land size discount when contributing to group land.

you get a 10% bonus on donating to group's, so if you would donate your full 512sqm basic tier to a group, the group could own 563sqm total.

It would be good to know what my genuine peak land usage REALLY is!! When land is owned by a group you get a 10% bonus for your tier. If you have 11497 available you can actually own 11497+1149=12646. This only applies to group owned land. If you own land individually by yourself you can only own 11497 without a bonus. It looks like you have a larger contribution than you need. 10706 should be sufficient (10706+1070=11776). I'm not sure how to reduce your contribution but I'm sure someone else here can help you with that.

aah ok great thanks a lot
so.....if I want to get the maximum amount of land possible and stay within the 1/4 Sim tier - are these calculations correct?
(This additional land would be owned by the same group as the existing land and the 1 other group member is NOT a premium member of SL)
11,776m2 current plot size
1/4 Sim limit = 512 + 16,384 = 16896 m2
10% of 16896 = 1689.6 m2
16896 + 1689.6 = 18,585.6 m2
hmm - so is the MAX amount I can own (as group owned land) and stay within 1/4 sim tier..... 18,585.6 m2 ?

This is confusing. As others have said, you get a 10% "bonus" on group tier, but I'm having a tough time working the numbers here. For starters, I suspect the discrepancy is 279, not 297 (just because that seems the simplest typo to make things add up properly, and the 11776 is a nice integral multiple of 512, so I suspect that number is right, too).
But why only 279 bonus on 11497? There must be something else complicating this (such as some of the land not being group-deeded, perhaps?).
As for reducing your total contribution, you should be able to adjust it right on the Group / Land & L$ page where you saw the 12646 figure. You can just keep shrinking it down till the "Land Available" to the group is 0.
Your calculations look correct about the theoretical maximum amount of group-owned land within the quarter-sim tier limit. In practice, of course, it can only be an integer multiple of 16sq.m., so 18576.
