Hi everyone, I have a quick question, I am developing a php module for my website that lists visitor statistics. Is it a violation of the TOS, if I posted say:
Fire Centaur (2 visits this week) John Smith (5 visits this week)
etc?
Please let me know if you know -
thanks!

thanks! Why would you want to do such a thing? What benefit does it serve for anyone? I say let folks pop in without it being publicized. And if you post my name I will claim I was nowhere near the bathhouse at 10pm...

I think you can post that.
You couldnt post things like "X person visited and IRL is from Vermont" etc.
Could be wrong though. Wheres Elex? He knows the TOS pretty well.

Linden Lab considers third party web sites to be outside their realm and thus you can name names there all you like (unlike these forums).
Your visitors may feel differently, but they can't ban you from SL because of it.

Granted, posting chatlogs to 3rd party sites is somewhat different from posting visitor statistics, or even revealing RL information... but the following blog posts are quite telling.... The Confusion: http://honeywendt.blogspot.com/2007/05/posting-conversations-in-my-blog-is.htmlThe Clarification: http://honeywendt.blogspot.com/2007/05/this-is-update-on-meta-linden.htmlSummary: From: Meta Linden we do not enforce (TOS) outside of our servers, forums, and blogs, as a matter of policy.

I'm not quite sure why, or what the relevance of doing that would be...

Hi everyone, thanks for your responses. My sim is an educational one, not a casion or a sim of an adult nature, therefore, my whole idea is based on stimulating comunity. Ie: educators visiting my site, may want to know amongst the thousands of educators in sl, who are the active ones, atleast on my island anyhow. So that was sorta the reason. On many websites for example, web admins have a karma system, so, the users who post the most, are ranked as a "golden member" or - Super amazing poster etc... that sorta falls along the logic here... however, you do have a point. Certain users may not want to have their wearabouts posted, and the last thing i want to do is discourage people from visiting my sim because big brother is watching, therefore, I maybe will have a hud module, that, if worn, would report to my website.... hmmm have to think about this more... perhaps Ill just have the number of visitors instead of identifying each one with av name... let me know your thoughts on this... (by the way, I am hosting the http://joomlasl.org project, so anything i develop will be open sourced for the community)

Doesn't matter where it is, it really is no one's business where you are at any given time.

Might consider making a "visitor book" that people can touch if they want to be listed. So those who want can make their interest in the site known, while others can ignore it so they're not "outed" if they prefer privacy.
