is their a way to set a parcel to a different age status than the region it is in? For instance if it is a pg sim can a parcel be set to mature or can a mature region have adult sections?

Adult rating is by sim, not individual parcel.

However, an individual parcel can check a box in the Access tab to not allow persons who are not age-verified. But whether you check that or not, you will have to comply with your sim's rating settings.

No, maturity ratings are region wide, otherwise they would be pointless. If someone could make an adult parcel in the middle of a PG region, that effectively makes the region adult, cause people can see across parcel boundaries.

In fact the existing mainland mix of PG and Mature regions in a random mix makes PG semi-pointless, since you can see mature areas from PG areas if you are within the draw distance limit.

For "see" I include chat as well as visuals.
