So i am new to this whole thing and am trying to figure out how the hell i make my actual avatar so that i can see him and walk him around and all that. I go to edit and then appearance but there is no picture of anything when i try and change what i look like just a brown screen. Any help would be awesome

Welcome to second life where things don't always work as they should. It sounds like you are doing the right thing to edit appearance. Try clearing your cache and reloging. I don't know specifically what is going on for you, hopefully someone else who knows more about it will post here soon.

I made an alt recently and had the same problem, my avatar was completely invisible. Editing appearance didn't work. Anyway, all I did in the end was relog and then I could see her

See, now i have the problem where other people are invisible. the other night, it took until I was logging off before they appeared lol.

Hi Triston, welcome!
Sounds like you are just experiencing a 'bug'. I am also a mentor....so you can IM me in-world as well.... I can help you out with any avatar issues and I also make shapes and have some freebie skin upgrades if you'd like to try that.
The forums are a great place to look for assistance....hang in there...you'll get yourself squared away! And if I'm in-world, I'll be happy to help you out.
