Hi I have two groups in my list that are charging me group liability. One is the group for a mall where I"m renting, the other one is a group for a very nice exploring-sim I found and whose owner offered to add me to their group. I'm being charged L3 for each. I don't even get charged that for the Cartel group! Is this supposed to happen? Should they be making some changes to their settings? They're not exactly doing me any favours by having me in their group. I can't believe I'm asking such a noob question after two years on the grid!

people do that to offset their tier. sometimes they wait until after you join the group and then change the settings to include you in the costs. i would leave both groups. that's sneaky and underhanded that they didn't warn you before you joined them.

It's also done by mistake. The group setting that causes it is set by default and many group owners aren't even aware of what happens. You should IM the group owners and tell them. The chances are they didn't know.

From: 3Ring Binder i have created many many groups. never once has that been the default for anyone other than the owner of the group. never once. Did you have land listed in search? It is the default setting for everyone. Also, 120L a month isn't doing much to offset tier.

From: 3Ring Binder i have created many many groups. never once has that been the default for anyone other than the owner of the group. never once. There is actually a JIRA to fix this cuz the 'everyone' role does get the Liabilities by default and too many people that create groups do not realize it and then their group members get charged. Brann -- I would send a notecard to the group owners with your transaction history of the charge(s) pasted in and request a refund and also let them know that they might want to change that setting. Not only are you being charged for the Search fee or whatever, but if the owner sells the land, everyone with that ability will also get a portion of the sale proceeds. ETA: Here is the JIRA for those that wish to vote on it: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-378

Yah could most likely be a mistake a friend just went through that a few weeks ago. She didnt realize that was a setting when she made the group for her club. Boy was she embarrassed and felt bad. Just told her to do a notice to the group and she could return everyones money. We got her group fixed and she did return the money most didnt notice anything had happened Edited to add: She didnt have too many members yet. So that was good.

This is wrong. Group liability goes to paying for adds and to be shown in search, in no way can this goes towards tier. And while I dont think its fair to share that cost with normal member, it is the default and they might not know better. A way better soloution is to tell them, they probably isnt aware. Any sensible group owner would change the settings. To make LL change default, vote here: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-378but please remeber its done by ignorance and not greed for most group owners. The mall owner might have done so on purpose though, if you rent there he or she might feel its fair that you share costs.
