I would really appreciate a better working version of SL on a Netbook tried some on mine (Asus EEEPC 1000H) it is ok for a quick chat but only if graphics are set to lowest of low... Right now I am using Snowglobe on the Netbook... So keep it up I will definately test it if you need Beta Testers let me know...

Beowulf.. just said the same thing on another thread but I use the Meerkat viewer on my Eeepc 910.. to up performance you can change draw distance by chat command, even below settings in preferences e.g. 8m (before I was hacking the settings file with notepad)... is so far the best viewer I've used on it.

Rainbow Viewer Netbook Edition v1.0
09-12-2009 09:31
I released a first version http://my.opera.com/boylane/blog/show.dml/4332571Besides optimizations it includes a lot of small fixes to make floaters fitting on the smaller screen. It isn't perfect yet and I still hope to get some more speed out by using the Intel compiler for the Atom CPU. Not really working yet but one should not expect miracles from the very limited platform. Give it a try and please report back Boy

Boy -- I'll have to steal back the netbook I gave my mom and try it. Just wanted to say thanks for taking a shot at this!

I'm curious to know what people's experiences are too -- I'm looking at a netbook that exceeds all the recommended requirements *except* it's got the Intel 950 graphics rather than NVIDIA or ATI, and I'm wondering if that's going to be excruciatingly slow... anyone?

I released an updated version 1.1 of the netbook viewer, that has the full adult compatibility, so search etc. works. And some other fixes.

Well it is a Netbook and it is not supposed to run graphically heavy stuff I would say, Boy's Viewer gives me 7 to 10 fps so it is far from being smooth BUT you can use it to quickly log in when you are out of town... I usually use Metablot tho

A new version 1.2 is out with the backported security fixes from the mandatory 1.23.5 official viewer update. You can simply install it over an existing v1.0 or 1.1 to upgrade. Enjoy!

Question: How many people use a netbook with Linux to run SL? There is a new Ubuntu 9.10 release out into the wild very soon, and together with it a Moblin Netbook Remix. If there's some interest I may port the Netbook Viewer to one of these. No idea how this would work out tho, the last linux viewer I made a year ago or so .
