Editing (again)

Hello,

Some time back I asked for help with basic object editing and now I can use the stretch and position tools OK, thanks.

I find though that I cannot always reduce the size of an object beyond a certain point. I think its something to do with the underlying size of the prims inside it ?

The result is that some objects, eg a necklace, are still far too big.

Any advice please?

Thanks as always

If you use the stretch tool to shrink an object, you can't make it any smaller once the smallest dimension of any prim is down to 0.01m.

If you really need to make something smaller, you'd have to find the offending prim(s) and decide what to do with them. It might be possible to do without them and unlink them, or more likely, resize them and use a cut or dimple to make them small enough. Check out the sticky on micro/nano-prims on the builders' forum for more info.

((I think some builders are very lazy, often including minimum sized prims for no apparent reason, not considering their customers might need to resize. I'm not tiny by any means, but I recently had a prim skirt to resize. I found three minimum sized *full-alpha* prims that didn't need to be in the linkset at all, and another hollow cylinder at minimum-z that was far better replaced by a profile-cut tube.))

You can not reduce a prim to less than 0.01 in any direction. If you are finding you can't go any smaller, then one of the prims in the item has already reached that limit.

You can often get around this if you can find the offensive prim :-)

For example. When reducing a house (perhaps for a tiny to live in?) you may well find you can't even begin to reduce it! A quick hunt may well show that the windows are all 0.01m in the Y direction. If you increase that number, say to 0.1, then you can reduce the building by 10 times before the issue will occur again.

Obviously, some prims will look terrible if they are enlarged at all. But often a little bit of extra thickness won't make much difference.

Finding these 'offensive' prims can be tough though, heh. Here are some of the places to check, from past experience:

windows - often very thin
vines or other alpha-transparency bits
buttons or pictures on walls etc

With jewelry though, they are often already at the minimum all over. Very fine jewelry has to be made using various tricks such as turning prims inside out and using ones that are cut into smaller shapes.

You may not, sadly , be able to reduce the size of these no matter what you do :(

My trick is to find which prim/s is at the minimum size 0.010, make that/them 0.020 and you can usually reduce by 50% again, although this only looks good sometimes.
