A place I can't find. Can you help?

There was a sim a visited a while back. I had wanted to return after a time too see how it was coming along because it was a neat build. I failed to make a Landmark for it.
The place was a grungy city with dirty streets and a few groups of debris spinning in little whirlwinds here and there. This city had shops in it and.... I want to say a water tower too.
Does this sound familiar to any of you?

What was that place Chaos owned for awhile? Sounds kind of like it...but was it a role play sim?

Felonhall still has a little portion of what is described by the OP. there are several builds like that. Sarah Nerds place, and some smaller spots here n there, but i don't know any other names.

Was it a neko place?
I was at a Neko mall awhile back and it looked very similar to what you describe’
I may have the LM but it could take awhile to find it :p

Soap is awesome - could be there. While your descriptions sounds a bit like Missing Mile (on Soap) the build has changed but is equally good.

Suffugium. Or, possibly, the Hobo Infohub, and surroundings?

Or, perhaps you were lucky enough to come upon Arcadia Asylum's freebie shop in Calleta, mother lode of all things grunge. Including the dust devils with trash in them.

...pardon me for being off topic, but I just had a clever idea - describe some kind of place you might want to visit in the future in vague terms, but give enough clues to make sure it would indeed be interesting to visit specifically to you, and say you have been there but forgot the name and the landmark.

Then spend a day touring all suggestions.

I think I'm definitely going to try it when everyone forgets I posted that. :)

It would be easier to be honest and just to ask if anyone has any suggestions for the sort of place you might like to visit. People do it all the time. Residents Answers to questions of fact or opinion is what this forum is for isn't it?

Not sure if anyone is being dishonest, maybe sarcastic, but its nice to know that there are some people who are so superior that they never ever visit someplace without first making a LM..
How’s the view from up there?

There are so many regions in SL that are similar to what the OP describes, several of which have already been suggested. I'll add the possibility of Pulse sim to that, as it's grungy, has stores, dirty streets and swirling trash and used to have a water tower in the higher area above the shopping section. It could also be Urban Spirit, which is full of free grungy city items and textures (no stores that sell anything for L$ - everything in the sim is free).

To the OP, if you can remember how long ago your visit was, and you happened to be using one of the SL viewers that log where you visit (and you have the patience to do this) then maybe you could check your chat history logs to find the place? Also, any chance you might have taken a screencap or snapshot if it was interesting enough to merit that? If you did, and could post it, perhaps that might help us to identify it.

It even could apply to the Bay City area around docklands.

Actually, I was quite serious as well, even though I hope the OP forgives me for that jab - the description is a bit too vague. :) If I just ask 'what is a good place to visit that is X and Y', people will tell me about places they actually like, or at least about places they think I might like. And what I really could like might turn out to be extremely different. If I phrase the question in this manner, the response will not be limited to that - everything they can remember that could fit the description will be thrown into the list, whether they like it or not.

If it were a place I actually visited though, I'd see the chat logs for 'teleport completed from' lines. This and the names of bought and declined items, conversation topics and random mutterings to myself usually allow me to track down any sim I have been to in under 15 minutes, landmark or no.

Soap it was. Bit of an ironic name though. Thanks everyone, you're great.
