Is It Possible To Tell If Land Was Sold, Or Given Away...?

....without asking the seller or buyer ?
I'll tell you why I ask.
When my SL marriage broke down, my ex said he was, in his profile, selling the land for $L20,000. Or something like that.
I told him that if he sold the land for anything, I would be entitled to half the money.
The land was given to us as a wedding gift.
He said, after I'd contacted him, that he would be giving it away instead. A likely story, I know.
Soooo, is there a way of finding out if this scroat has diddled me out of some Lindens?
Because the land is now listed as being owned by another.
I do hope this makes sense.

you do realise that marriage property laws do not apply in SL right? i mean.. if the marriage is an "SL marriage" it isn't actually a legal marriage...

So you aren't "entitled" to anything.

morally, it might be nice if he split any profit with you, however. :) since it was a gift to you both. But... there's no "entitlement".

~~
to answer your question, though.....

i don't think there is a way to tell without asking one of the two. At least not to my knowledge. i'm pretty sure all land needs to be transfered with lindens though.. so.. the new owner bought the land, i think.. but.. for 1 linden... or... 100,000 lindens? i don't believe you'll ever know. (without asking)

Well, at the risk of dragging the new landowner into your situation, you could send the new owner an IM, asking if they bought the land, or if was given to them as a gift.

Whereas it might be considered a bit rude to ask the price they paid (if indeed they did pay for it), it may be a little easier to find out if they paid "above or below market, or a fair amount"...vague, I know, but if your ex is insisting it was given as a gift, with no monetary gain, and the new owner insists it was paid for, well that might give you some idea.

Having said that: if your ex has no intention of giving you any of the money (if money there be) from the sale of the land, that's an entirely different kind of drama you will have to pursue...

Mmmm, I'm aware of there being no 'laws' surrounding this, but as you say, 'morally', he 'should' split the money. In my opinion. :-)
And hey, half of whatever would be nice after............

Make a video and put it on youtube. :)

No.........there is not way to tell how much or how little linden land is sold for.

Why does the word "golddigger" come to my mind?

Lets say you do find out the gifted land was given or sold, then what?

Let's say you find out the current owner paid for the land. Unless you also know to whom they payed, it's not at all sure "free" land didn't exchange hands a few times in rapid succession.

Or, let's say they got it for free. What goods or services other than L$s may have been exchanged? Or may be expected?

Unless you already know the current owner more than well enough to ask this question, I don't think the answer, however obtained, would have any information value.

i suspect the value to her is finding out if her SL ex-'husband' is a bigger scumbag than she thought ;) ((the scumbag part being... if he sold the land and made a profit on land that was given to them \both\ as a gift.. but didn't share the profit with her.. it's sorta morally questionable - but not 'illegal' in any sense - since again.. marriage property laws don't exist in SL ;) ))

but you are right.. there is no "real" value.

Since she admittedly never "paid" for the land to begin with there isn't any sort of legal claim she has on it.. in any world.

Plus there are no divorce courts in SL. What are you going to do with any knowledge you gather from your investigation? There is absolutely no way that you can demand what you think you are owed. And if you decide to use any of that information to deflame your ex for retaliation you are instantly ARable.

Next time you decide to get SL married get an SL pre-nup :) Form a group with your significant other with only the two of you in it.........and make your mate one of the owners. You cannot be ejected from the group by even another owner. And the other owner cannot make you leave the group either. He/she sells anything group owed you get your cut.........and with only two people in the group you get half. :)

Forming a group costs 100 lindens.

Of course, he could sell the land to himself for nothing, then sell it for whatever amount he wanted, and she'd get nothing.

If one has spare tier (or is providing all of the tier for the land) they'd just sell the land to themselves for L$0 and then sell it on and get all the proceeds.
