Hi guys,
Is using the default ban method from your land enough to keep an avatar from getting in? I understand that griefers can create new avatars, but once someone is banned, is it necessary to take other measures to protect land?

once someone's banned, they're gone. That doesn't prevent alts, of course.

The offender can still stand on the outside of your land to do as they will.
Be sure to remove the CREATE OBJECTS and OBJECT ENTRY permissions for all residents.

Be sure to remove the CREATE OBJECTS and OBJECT ENTRY permissions for all residents. A friend and I tested how this works a while back. Once an avatar is banned from the property they cannot enter and you cannot hear anything the say in chat. They can still IM you, but their normal chat/whisper/shouts will not enter the parcel either. I have no idea how voice works on this. Objects they create will not enter the parcel, however they can create objects on your parcel while standing outside it. I thought this was odd, but it is how it works. I was able to create prims all over on my friends parcel, but could not move one in that I created outside.

slbanlink.com is what i use. its a system built on trust, where people share a database of banned names preventing those people from accessing your sim.like i said it's built entirely upon trust so you need not worry about it falling into the wrong hands.

Thanks for your replies, folks. Objects and scripts were already banned on my land. Hopefully this will do the trick now.

well something based on 'trust' is exactly the sort of thing that i worry could fall into the wrong hands. From: Yiffy Yaffle like i said it's built entirely upon trust so you need not worry about it falling into the wrong hands.

The thing I don't like about a system like this is that anyone can end up on a ban list for reasons beyond causing problems, such as a relationship breaking up or even the wrong name getting put on the list. A better system would be one which measured patterns and frequency and amount of bans so that it would ensnare real griefers.

As far as I can tell, if you ban an avatar from a parcel, they won't be able to create objects or move them in from outside. Based on my experience testing a technique that allows objects to be rezzed in parcels that don't allow object creation or entry... it still can't defeat the banline.

If that ever happens on banlink, you can always remove the selected group who banned the individual from your trust list.
