I wonder if I'm the only person in this situation.. I'm an Island owner and I don't run a SL business (not yet..but I'm working on it) so;..my monthly Island fees are paid by 'RL' me. The recent international financial crisis has seen my monthly tier fee rocket from £189 to £234 (and according to today's exchange rate..rising). Luckily a few shrewd land purchases in the past have allowed me to sell off the land, which in turn has paid for the ever increasing land fees. I wondered if any other UK and Euro (in fact any resident who finds themselves in crisis as a result of the declining international financial climate) residents were finding themselves in similar desperate circumstances..? Hang in there gang..this time will pass.. Perre....

in the past month and a bit ive watched the aussie dollar drop from .90usd to .60usd, coupled with the openspace announcement. i didnt hesitate to abandon. i'm still holding one full island, so yes, its getting harder for me.

I only have 1/3 of a sim, but of course the cost for those of us who use RL money to pay for tier has risen by roughly 25% in the last 3-4 months. It's not really desperate for me, but if I owned a whole Island, which I could have afforded a few months ago, I'd now have to get rid of it or find a way for it to pay for itself.

I pay my tier fees in L$ to a US-based entity from which I am renting tier, hence I am not impacted by currency moves.

From: Perre Anatine I'm an Island owner and I don't run a SL business (not yet..but I'm working on it) I'd put more effort into that if I were you. The exchange rate changes are beneficial if you are able to take money out of SL - a lot more £s for the $s.

hey!
well thats the risk of "international" business, and we have to pay vat too. it simply depends on your businessplan and as phil said, you also can win cos of exchange rates. my intention was to pay the fee for my full sim, independent of exchange rates or income. so in my case the server rental is a monthly bill as energy, ISP, ... is

I think you've hit the nail right on the head there Phil, up till now the Island's been a bit of a luxury which I could just afford. However with rising exchange rates for funds 'going in' it's forcing me to re-evaluate its very existence. Instead of experimenting with builds then deleting them I really ought to get the finger out and start selling them. Then the Island might pay for itself and I might see the benefits of the exchange rates for funds 'coming out'. Perre..
