Hello all
Why do my feet seem to sink into the ground sometimes when I sit ?
Is this a problem with the sim, or with my avatar ?
kisses...

You forgot to pay homage to the ground god..sheesh! That will be 20 lashes of a nightcrawler!
It could be your shoes not set right, or it could be a bug. Lately my feet have been 1/2 in the ground in one sim and fine in another. |

It can be many things.. Shoes not on properly if they are prim of course. A pose ball with the incorrect offset, If you are using ground is in an ao the sit creator should have made all body parts at ground level. It will take some time to see what the exact issue is as it can be many. Maybe you can provide a little more insight as to what you are doing/using when it happens?

I've been getting this problem a LOT recently, and its driving me up the wall. SOMETIMES restarting the client works, but not all the time. \

A sim restart can fix this sometimes...

I see this everywhere I go:
Stand on the ground and your feet sink in a bit. Stand on a prim and your feet are correctly positioned. From what I remember, there always was a small discrepancy with respect to avatars feet touching the ground. A long time ago it used to be the opposite, your avatar would actually be hovering a few inches off the ground. |

There's a very simple answer to it: your legs are too long for the chair.
When you sit, SL plays a sitting animation. (If the object you sit on is scripted, you can get any anim the object maker chose to use. Otherwise, you either get a default sit animation or one from your Animation Override [AO].) Seats are generally made with some avatar size in mind. If your avatar has smaller legs, they won't reach the ground. If it has bigger ones, your feet go into the floor. This is a problem that would be pretty difficult to overcome. In 10 years or so, I expect to see virtual reality worlds like SL where the avatar model includes physical aspects, bending them to avoid intersecting other objects, and animations that allow hands and feet to be placed in certain spots, allowing some flexibility for the limbs to bend to accommodate. That way we can have things like dances where your hands are actually on her hips, and sits where your feet are actually on the floor. But this is tricky stuff, and I don't expect to see it any time soon. Meanwhile, poses are simply sets of joint angles, and if those angles make your feet plunge through the floor, so be it. This is unrelated to the problem I've seen, where when I teleport into my skybox and walk around, my feet sink into the floor. If I sit on anything and stand, it fixes it. I'm guessing it's related to the problem that Fenix reports, even though the behavior is a bit different. |
