Hi all..... I just want to make a pleed for you all..... SL's floating with freebies, fair enough, and gr8 for the newbies, BUT bloody anoying for those who just want a little for their great effort. I do ask you to try to make kust a tiny little thing........ In your profile, just add in the end "SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CREATOR" Hells Angel might be pissed about it, but I think that's aboul all Now you all have some gr8 time in SL VISIT DENMARK COPENHAGEN!

Without intending to be condescending, I don't think it's difficult to produce better products than most of the freebies out there. Perhaps instead of asking us to give you a nod in our profiles, you put even more effort into your product and marketing. If you're having a problem competing with freebies, you need to raise the bar for yourself. I hate to be so blunt but you won't be successful otherwise.

I do not see how SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CREATOR" is promoting anyone specific
however I do see how this post and thread was a blatant effort at advertising LOL note the last sentence on the post...
ah well, I am not complaining, just commenting
(If I were going to put SUPPORT anyone in my profile it would be SUPPORT ME)
*meh*

The ridiculous thing of it all is, that the only thing I DON'T have in my shops are mi own builds yet. I'm not promoting my self or anyone else, I was just simply pissed over the freebies, that's was floating in a group, and made this thread. I'm unfortunatly (?) way to busy to take care of my own shops, due to my work at Denmark, but also there we have some very gr8 creators, and every time we rebuild there, we try hard to support our local customers.... That's really all there's is to it.....
SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL CREATOR! (just had to hehe)

My (admittedly limited) experience is that this is true. Most of my clothes are freebies, I admit. But that's just because I don't really care enough about clothes to warrant the expense. But when it comes to things like vehicles and buildings, as well as hair, freebies just don't cut it. Zaphod's right - in the areas I mention specifically, if you cannot compete with the freebies then maybe those industries are just not for you. I'm sorry to say that I just don't care enough about clothes to feel the need to support designers either.

I actually have a small freebie shop (even got complaints LOL) But one of the things I was thinking of was, when you build, or just want something "THIS EXTRA" for your land, why don't you just look right at your head..... Whenever I make a sale, I really do look the person (it REALLY is a person, don't forget) and see if he/she has something to offer me, or when I build in Denmark, I do try to attend to support the tenants there....

any excuse to post a pic eh ann? anywho yes, freebies.. there are a lot, some are stolen content that got released, others are true freebies, and some are awesome, others are crap I make my own clothes, sell some stuff, some days better than others, I also shop, buy other designers clothing, and shoes and hair, etc I also find nice freebies and use those too so I don't think the freebies are hurting any of us... be we shoppers, or providers (also a nice freebie I found has enabled me to start something I have wanted to do for awhile, and that is make tinies... (posted about it on my blog) they are soooo cute)

From: Rhaorth Antonelli waits for mac to defend himself (shhh don't tell him) He already said he'd happily take the blame. From: someone by the way, cute batman outfit (I think it is batman) It's not meant to be anyone specific...it's from Nicky Ree and comes in a bunch of colors. From: someone but for some reason your skin looks washed out no details like usual Different skin, although it actually has very nice detailing...the shading may just be a bit subtler than my usual choice.

I never do freebies - with the exception of the chicken suit of course - mainly becasue I can't be bothered trawling through all the junkyards. I'm sure there is some great stuff out there though. All my stuff is either bought, given to me by the content creators or I have had custom made for me.
The concept of "Support your local content creator" is a bit daft really - anybody who buys something is by definition supporting *a* content creator be they local or not

In most fields, freebies are generally much worse than products you can buy.
Freebie clothes however (for example all those flexi skirts from that business in a box fiasco where hundreds of non freebie items ended up as freebies) are very high quality so I can understand how it would be hard for someone to get started in the clothing business.

From: Dinohunden Paine The ridiculous thing of it all is, that the only thing I DON'T have in my shops are mi own builds yet. So what you're really saying is "Support Your Local Retailer" then, isn't it? Which is also ridiculous, because most of the people I know list shopping as a hobby. I've spent, gaaaa, thousands of linden in the couple of months I've been here. If you're not seeing any cash flow, then something else is the matter - it ain't us.

It's quite common for peeps to get the SL bug, start creating stuff, open a little shop somehwere and expect the customers to come flooding in... Of course it usually takes a little more than that unless you have come up with the latest must have something or other. It's exactly the same as running a business in RL. Personally I dont sell anything, but I do take pleasure in creating stuff and "arranging" objects that I have bought. Point is it's just for fun really. If you set out with the objective of making stuff to sell and turn a profit, spend hours on it and nobody seems interested or buys then you are on a rapid path to dissilusionment. If you set out with the objective of making stuff for yourself and for fun and others like and buy ity then great! If they dont then so what? At least you have something YOU like

I am a totally compulsive shopper, I live to spend my lindens on quality designer clothes skins and hair. If its beautiful, I have to have it! My first account with SL was a couple of years ago and i loved freebies, but now I am over them pretty much. Heaps easier to buy lindens and buy up on usually better quality stuff I think. So i definitley, absolutely support designers!
