After downloading the latest release of SL I found instead of music at the Coffee Shop on Platinum Island I just got dreadful squawking and noise, then it stopped all together. I can hear all other sounds and music elsewhere, it's just that one place, that I know of, and as I tend to do a lot of dancing there it's very annoying. I was wondering if a fresh reinstall of SL might fix it, as it doesn't appear to be a general computer issue, but if I did that, would I lose anything, like all the stuff in my Inventory?
Hope someone can help me with this one.

Hi there, First of all, given that the problem only occurs in one location, i'd say reinstalling the client won't make any difference. BTW, reinstalling will not make any difference to your inventory and such since they are stored on LL servers. Since you only have the problem at the one location, that location is the place to try and find a solution probably. First thing to do would be to check your sound settings in your preferences at the Coffee Shop, lower the sliders on all but the music volume, see if that helps. Also, music can go a bit weird from time to time for no apparent reason, simply stopping and starting it again (a few times) sometimes works to fix it. And because it is a problem in only one location it could be that there is a problem with the music stream at the location. Ask others there whether they are having problems to, if you haven“t already. Good luck

This is exactly why people in sl don't like downloading new material because more then not it brings more problems then what it's suppose to fix. Incredible but true.

I ditto that.
I used to always download them, but not anymore. Now they have to drag me kicking and screaming.

Well I use the Nicholaz viewer, so not too bothered about updates, he usually fixes what borks appear pretty quickly. BUT in the case of the OP the problem only arises in a single location, so I'd say that's unlikely to be viewer related.

I must admit I had wondered myself. I've been to lots of other dancing locations and have no problems at all with the sound. I did try all manner of adjustments at the Coffee Shop but there's just no sound at all. It may well be that it's their problem, not mine at all, and just coincidence that it happened just now.
Anyway, thanks for those suggestions. I'll ask around some more.
