Back when there were only 50,000 online concurrently, SL was fun to play. But since all the newbies came, it seems like every time we go above 75,000 the lag really sucks sucks sucks.

Come on you Lindens. figure this out, already.

There, I feel much better now.

Back when there were 50,000 online? I am still fairly new around here (joined in late January) but I haven't seen it at 50,000 yet, let alone 75,000! Is this during the weekends?

Regardless, to me the amount of people online doesn't seem to affect my lag... it only seems dependent on how many AVs are nearby the area I'm in. But then again, I haven't done any tests so I can't be sure. Mostly (when the servers are up and running properly) I have no complaints with regard to lag.

My time prediction for OP's post to be true: June 30, 2007 (at least the 50,000 concurrent part)

Wow.. You're old, Lee.. I only remember when the problems started happening at 95,000 online at once. Around 75k, they'd shut out non-verifieds and that'd help for a bit but then Asia would wake up, log on to their business sims and drag everything down again. Then LL would lock out the non-premiums and it'd help for a bit.. Right now, I'm buying my 3rd sim so I don't get locked out until the 4th round or so..

I hear Mono and Havok 2 will help.

:P

Now that SL online concurrency is declining from its 2012 peak of 217,000, rival virtual world Googsoft-Lockboeingheed Gaia is claiming 300,000 online in the lead up to the launch of its premium holographic version

Which launched with Havok version 200, while SL is still on Havok 1.... and it offers it's own fully submersive VR suite, if you pay a year in advance for your own planet!

I unplugged my SL neuro-port today.

Damn it's cold out there in the RL world! And wet! And smelly.

Couldn't find anyone around either.

The good thing is was the lack of lag. But gravity is a pain. And having to walk and drive places.

When I first posted this, I figured 50,000 was just around the corner. Little did I realize that it would be October before 50,000 was a regular occurrence.

I have been feeling really guilty for the past couple of months, like I jinxed SL or something.

When I saw 52,000 plus last on October 7 (my real life birthday) I was really delighted...

regards to you all.

People keep saying it's the IDV stuff and the gambling stuff and the ageplay stuff and the lag and all that.. I've been saying all along that it was you, Lee. :P

Happy birthday! :)

Why'd you unplug? You didn't know that you can get your NutriPlasma delivered directly to your feeder tube? You can order it down at the NutriPlas sim, and a non-SL pleb will get you all set up in 30 minutes or less, or your next order's free.

Just wait until people get tired of GoogleSIM, MyWorld*EU / MyWorld*Asia, and Earth Explorer - why, the grid is almost stable now and the "hair up the butt" problem has been resolved for the most part. I'm predicting by Christmas 2009 SL will be back up to 30K on weekends, and if that rumor of a free quarter sim with every extended (2 year) premium membership holds true, it could even hit the 40K mark.

Also, has anyone else checked out the equipment auction page? Now that they've retired an entire continent and closed the Texas CoLoc there's a ton of *SWEET* equipment out there...

And I'll tell you another thing, I never would have thought that [SESSION EXPIRED[00\&!@@

Can't believe no one has forgotten age play yet. Still don't see the big deal. Yeah I was 203 years old and my AV was in her 30's. One little slip up and I was banned for a decade! Go figure!

By the time we hit 75,000, only 5000 actual people will be online wondering why their sales are nil, the rest will be bots or AFK.

I remember when 'a little ray of sunshine' was just a screen effect, now it's much more fun to have the effect stimulated by the Linden Labs neurological feeds attached to my head.

I love this thread ...

And I remember when every time we had 20,000 online, the whole grid crashed.

We've topped 50,000 several times now. Aside from that, the OP is joking...poking fun at the posts that reminisce, "Back when concurrency was only 12,000 the grid was a happy place..."
