Say folks, what actually happens when you reach your prim limit? Do you just stop rezzing prims or are you fined for the extras somehow? I have my land set to build by everyone and today discovered about 6 prims to spare for a short while. Now before you start going all ballistic, unreasonably intrudaphobic, and ban happy on me, I WANT people to rez things on my land, to open boxes and fly vehicles, etc. I just don't want to be charged if it can go over the prim limit. Are there built in safeguards? I never approched my limit before.

I have reached my prim limit on my land. Once you reach that limit the prims simply won't rezz and you get an error message saying something to the effect that you have reached your allotted prim limit. No fine or added tier.

You get fined, so send me 10,000L.
Or what Peggy said.

if you buy/rent more land in the same sim, you can actually share the available prims between plots. unfortunately you can't share between plots on different simulators.
But yes, as has been said already, when there's no more prims, you simply can't rez stuff. If you have 4 prims free and try to rez a 30 prim car, it will just say "not enough prims".. and no car will appear.

On the other hand if you have 700 prims and you sell of a chunk a land, everything over the new lower prim limit gets returned, ugly coalesced style.

Or as has been the case for me recently... It may just vanish, never to be seen again, with nothing showing up in your Lost and Found.

Well all this is good news. It means I can still try to be a tolerant highly evolved being. The 250+ extra prims that belonged to someone else (and what WERE they doing with them anyway?) got returned in a half hour so it's all cool.

If you also set autoreturn, other people's prims will disappear over time.
I also have set my land so that everyone may rez stuff, because it is a beach parcel and I want people to have a chance to rez a vehicle if they like. I also have set a (rather generous) autoreturn period. Sofar I always find just my stuff on the parcel.
If I would find the parcel full of cr*p when I arrive I would just return the stuff manually instead of waiting for autoreturn to kick in.
One way or the other, there is no charge attached to reaching your prim limit.

Auto Return is your friend. Enable it and don't worry about the prim limit.

Yes, this means you can still be a canine (the very definition of a tolerant highly evolved being)! /me adds a vote for enabling autoreturn, to take care of the mess from people who wander off and forget to pick up their toys first. Humans can be so forgetful! I NEVER forget my ball when I'm playing in someone else's yard! I frequently approach my prim limit by having too much stuff about at my homes, though. When I do that, I start looking for ways to reduce the prim counts in all the stuff that I have.

In the OP's case, reaching the prim limit simply means that no more prims can be rezzed. Things change, however, if you are renting group-owned land in an estate. Even though you may be allotted a given number of prims for your parcel, there is no mechanism in place to prevent going over that limit, since everyone living in that estate share the same prim pool. Go over your established limit, and you're likely to get a notice from your estate manager. (yes, I speak from experience here )

Since you want people to be able to rez boxes and such turning off rez prims while leaving on object entry to allow vehicles through I guess isn't an option so the above people seem right, just turn on auto return for some reasonable period, if you see prims filling up too quickly or people complaining about not enough time you may have to tweak it but that's the best solution.

From: Weston Graves Say folks, what actually happens when you reach your prim limit? Do you just stop rezzing prims or are you fined for the extras somehow? Once a parcel is full, attempts to rez more there will get you an error from the sim. Beware of doing this - many inventory loss scenarios (I think anyway) tend to be related to when you try to rez something but the sim decides you can't and tries to put it back in your inventory. A full sim gets 15,000 normal prims. There's extra space for things like temp objects, avatar attachments, things people are sitting (like vehicles) but that 15k is hardcoded. The math works out to be: "yourPrims = maxSim / simSize * landOwned * primBonus" where: - yourPrims : how many normal prims you can use - maxSim : the number of prims the sim supports (15k for full regions) - simSize : always 65536 in SL - landOwned : how many m2 the parcel owner owns on that sim - primBonus : the region prim bonus (usually 1.0) It's just a basic math formula. You pay for X amount of land which gives you Y number of prims. Try to go over that and the sim will just say 'no.'
