But...... aren't they from an obsolete traffic system that no longer does anything?

Exactly. You can get them, you can pester people to use your voting station, but those votes go into limbo and do nothing at all.

I don't honestly know- but I saw them awhile ago on SLExchange- figured can't hurt :) But if someone has info on this I wouldn't mind knowing.

That just brought back some old memories. Remember when LL paid us for traffic??

The voting boxes with the SL hand on top are, indeed, obsolete.

However, the one on SLX is directed towards slpopularplaces.com. My club sat on it for months. It was discouraging to be constantly beat out by the sex islands and even one parcel that was for sale and had nothing on it at all, despite the owner's reassurances that the numbers were updated daily.

My experience has been that the slpopularplaces.com one is just as worthless as the Linden one.

The interesting thing is many people don't seem to be aware that voting stations don't do anything, including owners and managers.

The original Linden voting booths make a nice sound when the going-into-limbo-land vote is cast, though.

The slpopularplaces.com listings used to be updated daily, now they're updated monthly, so I would agree that it is a fairly meaningless metric too.

First we had voting stations.

Then we had Dwell.

Today we have Traffic.

And how testy they get, when you try to tell/help them! ;)

Which should say something about LL trying to find a way to measure a place's popularity that can't be gamed into the ground.

/me whistles the theme song to Mission Impossible and wanders off.

Being one who likes "old school" kind of things, I'd love to have one of the original LL voting boxes just as a conversation piece.

If anybody has one, feel free to drop it on me.

Thnx...

If one doesn't come your way ASAP, message me inworld and I'll drop on your way.

Wanna go for a real old-school conversation piece? Get an "I am" sign.

*Sigh*
Voting boxes..
Rate me & I'll Rate you..

SL used to be soooo conveniently simple in the past.
I still really miss the Rating thing I must say. I'm still hoping for those to return sometime, though maybe reworked a little.
