/kma
/lol But these are gestures (see recent thread) and not really commands. If you want to see what all you can do, open you inventory, open the gestures folders and browse through there. Too many to name them all, that's for sure. |

Oh, so glad you asked that, it reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask too

/kma /lol But these are gestures (see recent thread) and not really commands. If you want to see what all you can do, open you inventory, open the gestures folders and browse through there. Too many to name them all, that's for sure. I also think there's a notecard with info on gestures in your Library. Make sure you copy the notecard from 'Library' to your Inventory, or you may not be able to open it. If I understand correctly, what you'd like to know is if their are other types of commands like /me ... Not really. There are ways to 'whisper' so only one particular av can hear you, and different coloured text meaning different things. Is this what you meant? I'm not very good with those, maybe someone else will be able to help you. * See? Sue wants to know! |

Sure!
![]() There's / That suppresses the typing noise and animation, useful at live music events to not rudely interrupt the performer or disturb listeners but prefaces your chat with the / So there's /0 /0 does the same but doesn't display a / before your chat The only other one I know is //, which I learned from someone's SL tips website a long time ago... ![]() // sends your chat on your last used channel So if you use /0 to suppress the typing noise and animation, you can use // afterward to do the same more easily! ![]() (Adding, I had heard there used to be a whisper that wasn't used enough to keep apparently) _____________________

If "afk" is anywhere in the text, you'll get the "away" animation. Annoying when you want to tell folks that someone else is afk. Perhaps all caps wouldn't do that, though.

Or you could just deactivate the afk gesture ![]() That's probably the easiest thing to do...or type 'a.f.k' or 'a f k' |

Have you guys seen any kind of plugin/gesture package for common functions? What I mean is, I saw someone other day type like /p name and it looked up the persons profile or other common commands.

Oh, so glad you asked that, it reminded me of a question I've been meaning to ask too ![]() Can an avatar whisper? If so, how? Sue: Short answer is "no". Longer answer: I've heard there is a script that will let you whisper, but I haven't seen it. Some objects do whisper...you can only hear them if you're within 3 meters...so I expect it can be done, even if you have speak through an object, like MystiTool's "mimic" feature. Best answer: Use IM for private remarks. Nobody can overhear an IM, no matter how close they stand. _____________________

Perhaps all caps wouldn't do that, though. ![]() Or simply change the trigger to /afk instead? ![]() Conundrum, maybe that was a script tool? The multigadget recognizes it's commands that way... And on Lindal's whispering suggestion, you can also group IM friends or contacts by multi-selecting their names and clicking IM... (But you won't know if they leave the session and if anyone relogs you have to set it up again...) If you just want to whisper for effect, simply use... /me whispers: something insidious (Which also might get everyone asking how you did that? ![]() _____________________

Recently, someone said something to me in open chat and it showed up in a different colour, I don't remember which. Anyway, I assumed the comment was directed to me and only me (meaning I was the only one who was suppose to see it) because it referred to the a person standing next to me. Nothing nasty, but not something I'm sure she would have said out loud. I wish I'd asked her how she did it then. I'll ask her tonight if she is online. |

As in: Carl Sagan types: /m Ted Bundy: I like ponies which appears in green text in chat as: Ted Bundy: I like ponies. Oh, and I am not certain what the mimic command is, though there is one to make Mimic work on the Mystitool attachment. _____________________

At least I hope no one else saw it, lol. |

Of course, last night Graph started talking about two people, and one of them was on voice and could hear him. _____________________

Green chat can actually come from something everyone can see OR a script "llInstantMessage" to you, which is NOT the same as a regular IM, but simply appears as green chat only to you.
The only way to know who it is from is seeing the sparklies swirl around them a moment before it shows up. ![]() afaik, the only way to know if the green chat you see is public or private is by context? _____________________

This is probably what she used. I remember knowing right away who it was from - maybe she typed in her name 1st? - but maybe it was because it just made sense that it came from her, (in context). So, you can tell. Of course, there are ways clever people can use to send blue system text, and no doubt green text as well, using modified client or bot. But scripts obey what you said above. BTW, the sparklies can be misleading because it could be an invisible attachment up to 10M away from the person wearing it. (Or whatever the attachment distance limit is, might not be fully 10M.) |

I like to mess with people by typing like this:
/me whispers: Hey you! I'm right next to you... and then I press the 'shout' button. _____________________

llInstantMessage text always starts with "IM", before the object name. So, you can tell. ![]() [9:37] Object: Hello, Avatar! [9:37] Object: Touched. My SLX magic box never has an IM prefix (which I just saw as I logged in), maybe you have an object named that, or the script renames it for when it uses llInstantMessage? Some cue would be nice, I've heard of people not enjoying tipping when tip jars publicly thank them, and I think some don't realize llInstantMessage is private. However, now that I think about it, wouldn't prefixing the name to something different be generally bad for finding spamming objects? ![]() Thanks for the other valuable reminders though, and deceptive sparklies, on build land it would be easy to have those appear from someone else now that I think about it, so never good to assume... ![]() _____________________

I think I was told once upon a time that typing "/" allows you to whisper. Whisper being that only folks in a 10 m radius (half that of the chat's 20 m radius) can hear you. This may be antiquated information, but I got it by googling "whisper sl".
I also have a few fun devices which function as chat dampeners and allow you to chat on a channel and have everyone in a certain radius hear the chat, but those outside of the radius do not. Of course, it does it in green scripted-chat color. Yellow chat indicates that you were script-IMed. Also, if you are wearing scripted HUDs/AOs/etc, avoid if at all possible typing "/1 reset". You will get bombarded with notices that all sorts of scripts from MystiTool to your AO are resetting even if that weren't the goal. I haven't tested the / for whisper but I believed it to work up until this thread. Is it a "used to but no longer" sort of thing? Or did I originally find it on an unreliable source? http://virtuallyliving.wordpress.com/2007/09/13/how-to-whisper-in-second-life/ |
