I've just dropped you a box in-world that, when touched, will tell you YOUR avatar key.

There isn't any legit way to get other people's keys without their permission, and I can't think why anyone might need to anyway.

That's cute Broccoli, but the answer is you can find it here: http://secondlife.com/app/search/search?q=Own%20Westland or here: http://w-hat.com/name2key?name=own+westland

*edit: also if you use the All search in world to search for someone's name you can click on the link that takes you to the web version of their profile and their key is printed at the bottom.

???
Collision, touch, sensors, sitting, listens on chat channels, payments and probably a couple more all hand out the key by their very nature. Any script which does *anything* with an avatar at all (animating, IM'ing, giving things, etc) needs the key. It's just a technical name; not some secret knowledge which grants you power over the avatar.
I guess most people mistake the avatar key for a SSN or similar, and so are afraid of other people knowing it, but it really is no secret.

That's sl paranoia. And here I though it only belonged to just most shop owners/builders. Because damn they're paranoid.

Once you get your key you can store it in the notes section of your profile, and send it to your self in your email, and make a notecard named "My Key " and store it in the notecard.

Or just make a T-shirt and put it on the back.

Or put it on the front of your T-shirt and the back of your pants; when you want to know it, just ask in chat and you'll get a quick response because some guy will already be looking at it.

Here's another site from Moopf Murphy

http://www.moopf.com/name2key.php

I use UUIDs every week for split pay and a couple of 'support' services I offer on the back end of sale.

cheers

Hey now, don't lump all us shop owners together. I know that keys are nothing major! I mean, if you want something sent to you from Onrez or SLEx you gotta have it registered with them, after all.

*shrugs* While I have no idea why anyone would want to collect them, I guess there are reasons to do so.

you can get the keys in world, open the search window on all (not people) search their name. click on their name in the results (not their profile) at the bottom of the search window it gives a link. the long # at the end of that link is their key. totally legit, or it wouldn't be there
