I keep seeing this number

when i try dailing it from a UK phone i get this number is not recognised

i am not used to international dialing so looked up the prefix for the US

+1 so is that

1 703-286-6277 (no idea how you make a +)

anyways i tried that - and guess what - number not recognised

this is a pain and isnt it about time basic account members had some means of contactiing LL as well other than this stressful experience as many Basic accounts generate thousands of dollars that LL benefit from

what number do you dial to get to LL support if you live in the UK

thanks in advance

Its 00. Have you ever spotted on your mobile phone Surfwidow, or anywhere else, that unknown numbers (specially mobiles) will sometimes come up as +44 and then the number. Basically the plus is 00, then you have the UK code - 44, then it is the actual number.
so this would be

00 1 703-286-6277

yup, Fairfax County, Virgina is a haven of call centers
(that's a guess, because reverse look up maps it to Washinton, VA, which is outside the 703 zone, in 540, so it's likely the telcom that controls the number is based in Washington)

Surfy,

First off use 00 1 then the number.

Secondly use www.just-dial.com and connect via one of their 0845 numbers, as it makes it a lot cheaper.

Immed to you in word as well :)

This is not correct Ee.

It's Mumbai ... or Bangalore ...

Toxic, is that true? Callers internationally for 800 numbers here don't get a discount .... hmmm interesting!

Yup, what about an 08705 (national rate) number or an 08457 (local rate).

Better yet an 0800 (free) with an 00800 (Euro Free) number.

It annoys me as a British person to pay for an international call to speak to someone in Brighton.

and there is even a website where you can get the landline number for a NGN (non-geo) number.
If you go to www.saynoto0870.com you can search for the company you are trying to ring. sometimes - especially with the larger companies, people will have given 01 or 02 numbers to replace the 08 or 09 numbers. Cost of a local or national call instead of the stupid rates they charge.

Ouch!

However, you *can* get cheap calls from UK landlines without having to pay a monthly fee or sign a contract tying you in.

I use a company called 18185 dot com (and there's also 18866 dot co dot uk). The way it works is you go to their website and sign up (it's free), and fill out a Direct Debit or Credit Card mandate. Then whenever you want to make a call from your BT line, you simply dial 18185 before the number. You get charged 5p (I think) connection charge for the call, and UK landlines are 0p/min, US is 1p/min. Other countries vary, but they're usually cheaper than BT.

Mobiles aren't, nor are 0800 or 0845 or 0870 numbers - so you just dial those directly without dialling the 18185 first.

I thought there must be a catch at first, but there isn't. I've been using them for over a year now, and it works a treat. You just get an online bill (never any paperwork) showing how much you spent this month, and for me it's usually about four pounds in total! You don't have to sign a contract, or inform BT.

Weird, so the international US number is rerouting calls through to Brighton. To do this the number reroutes to a British telephone number...now we just have to find out that telephone number and we can dial direct!

Anyone here work for BT? ;)

http://www.countrycallingcodes.com/ - Country Calling Codes for the world, for anyone else who doesn't know how to 'get out' of their country ;)

oh, and if you only have the in-country number, don't forget to drop the 0 after you've dialled the international code - for example, number in uk 021234567 dialled from australia becomes 0011 21234567 (gee, i hope that's not actually anyone's number!) :D

Ah, quelle surprise.

You utter mug. You've been given endless advice how to call that number without spending £1.25 a minute (which ISN'T the cost anyway), yet you persist with your nonsense.

You get a nasty "suprise" when you call that "bunch of useless wankers" when you still, after all this time, won't accept that your internet connection is inappropriate and unsecured (and stolen)and that most, and given your track record, probably all of the problems you encounter are of your own making. And if I was a customer services agent on the receiving end of your (freely admitted) abusive language and inability to process information, I'd string you along on the phone for a damn good while, just to annoy you.

Grow up, for the love of Christ. Start accepting some responsibility.
