Question about prims that refuse to downsize

I got some prim legwarmers that are mod. I think they are for men; they are huge. However when I edit/stretch, the white boxes won't go in any further than they already are, so I can't make the legwarmers smaller (they can be made bigger however...the boxes will more further out, just not in). I've had this happen with certain belts in the past, too, so I thought I would finally ask....are there prims that are somehow fixed so they can't be made smaller?

That would mean that a prim, or prims, are already at the minimum size they can possibly get. You will have to go in and edit them prim by prim pretty much. :(

There is a minimum size limit to a prim. If the legwarmers have other smaller prims attached to them its likely that THOSE prims have hit the minimum size and since its all linked the whole thing can't get any smaller.

example small jewel prims on shoes do this alot.

There is a minimum size any prim can be. If you are scaling a linkset, like a belt, it will not scale any lower once the smallest prim in the set hits the minimum size.

Yes, these legwarmers have a lot of little decorations on them. So that makes sense. Bummer, though. Thanks for the explanations!

It will be more work but check off "edit linked parts" in the build menu and then try scaling each individual prim in the linkset to avoid the minimum size issue that others have mentioned. It can be tricky at first but a useful skill to develop. Also if they are copy, make sure to make a copy first before you play around with it in case things get fubar'd

Thanks, Joshooah! I actually know how to do that with hair, but it didn't occur to me to try it with these legwarmers. Another "duh" moment. :-) Wonder how long I can keep blaming it on being a newbie...

Soon you will lose your noob status, young padawan and then you'll just get bored and no longer have the need to ask actual relevant questions and just participate/lurk in silly flame wars like the rest of us :p

For items with lots of prims that would need manual resizing, this script might help:

One way to be a bit more precise is to do this:

1. Size the item down as far as it will go
2. Choose Edit Linked Parts and look at individual prims. If you find any that have dimension(s) of 0.010 m, manually increase that to 0.015 or 0.020 in the appropriate size window(s)
3. Once the minimum dimension of all the prims has been increased, uncheck Edit Linked Parts and resize the entire object again.

Doing it this way keeps the parts in proper relation to one another.

(and I'm going to go look at that script)

Joshooah, I look forward to it!

Regarding that script, the root prim of each legwarmer is a little box in the center. I can't find any information on the web on how to select that prim since it's covered by other prims that get selected instead.

When you drop something into the contents of an object, it will automatically go inside of the root prim. :)

Move the other prim out of the way so you can get to the root prim and make your size adjustment, then go back to the prim that you previously moved and hit ctrl-z to move it back to it's previous position.

BTW there are 109 prims in just one of these legwarmers. Yow.

The script is working, but it's agony. The white boxes for stretch are way the hell out, far away from the legwarmer. I'm having to move them while having difficulty seeing the legwarmer. Whee.

Just select the object in the normal way, without doing "edit linked parts", drop the script in the contents tab, and you're good to go -- that puts it in the root prim.
