1 of 3 Avi's is a poof ball

I have 3 main avi's i use and 1 is a poof ball i did every thing the knowlage base said but didnt work but it shouldnt matter becouse i have 2 other avi's that arnt the one thats a poof ball is the first one i log in with as its my main avi i use its been 24 hrs of poof ball i have tried rebake relog restart only thing i havent is reinstall but once again it shouldnt matter as my 2 other avi's are ok please help im me in world if you need more info

It's actually one of every two here in West Hollywood.

I'm occasionally in a poof ball mood, but only because I am trying to build something which requires me to be small.

Lacey, it isn't clear from your post what your problem is. Can you be a little more specific? Are you stuck in your poof ball avatar, or can't wear it? Did you get any instructions with it? Have you tried contacting the person/place you bought it from?

I *think* she means the cloud; that she doesn't rez out of the cloud. Could be wrong but think that's what she means by poof ball.

Well, you said you tried relog rebake restart, lol. Have you tried going into, then out of, Appearance? That works for me when I get stuck in the cloud......

i click on my avi and get the pie menu but apperence is not highlighted i have tried standing on a pose stand and i went into apperence that way but not via the pie menu so yes i went in to apperence

One of my groups was handing out a hair base that turned you into a cloud -- to help in places that were a lagfest. You did not put one of those on, did you?

Oh, hmmm... that gives me an idea. I don't know how this hair base can turn an avatar into a cloud, because there's nothing to a hair base but a texture... and that suggests that a corrupted texture asset could turn an avatar into a cloud. And if that's true, then a corrupted cache entry could turn an avatar into a cloud, too, if the local machine couldn't bake the avatar textures together. (I would think that other viewers would still be able to get the individual textures, although that will stop working soon. In the meantime, though, I would expect other folks might see our lil "poof ball" just fine.)

All of which is by way of hinting: maybe try clearing cache?

A system hair of some sort is a requirement - you cannot actually every NOT have one on. So, it really sounds like that Cloud Hair that I was given.

"Cloud hair"? Explain more. How could something do that?

not entirely true... it also has settings for size shape, blah blah blah... but the texture angle is probably the part to look at...

If all else fails, try opening the advanced menu, and doing character-character tests-test female. This sort of reboots your av and gives you a brand new newbie avatar, to which you can apply your old shape, skin and so on. Works for me, every time I get stuck as a cloud of smoke, anyway.

Best I know, it only has the hair base to it. When they gave it to us they simply said to out our own hair base back on or the one the included that was a regular bald cap.

The viewer looks for missing or default things to decide if an avatar should be rendered as a Ruthcloud. One of the tests is if the hair texture is IMG_DEFAULT, d2114404-dd59-4a4d-8e6c-49359e91bbf0 - so, a hair that seems to use that texture would fool the viewer.

Unless there's something wacky about how I tested with my alt, the effect is local to the avatar's viewer, which wasn't quite what I expected on first read of the explanation. I guess it kinda makes sense if other viewers are able to get baked avatar textures despite the default texture on the hair base. But it's not going to reduce lag for others if they still download and render the whole avatar anyway.

I also notice that Lacey is right that while in Ruthcloud, "Appearance" is unavailable from Edit and the pie menu. That logic is kind of interesting, too.

interesting... so what if all texture layers come up with IMG_DEFAULT ? perhaps that would stop the baking process and render you as a fuzzball for others as well.

Consider yourself VERY lucky!

I think the idea here is that, until the system can load and apply a skin, shape, and clothing meshes on you, there's nothing to edit.

For baked textures other than the hair, it checks for a different UUID, IMG_DEFAULT_AVATAR, c228d1cf-4b5d-4ba8-84f4-899a0796aa97 - it's only checking the upper and lower body, to prevent naked ruth syndrome, not all the sections.

Not having a shape loaded yet also counts as cloud fodder.

(I should mention here that my notes came from 1.22. In 1.23 there is a common check for hair and the other baked against IMG_DEFAULT _or_ IMG_DEFAULT_AVATAR ). For this to work there can't be a good previous bake available either.

Blocking appearance when Ruthed makes some sense, worn items and inventory haven't been reconciled yet.

So while I see me as a cloud, others do not? Interesting and it does explain why I saw very few other clouds in the store that gave us the Cloud Hair. What does seem somewhat odd is that when I was a cloud, I flew faster, whereas when not a cloud it was like flying thru molasses, as expected because the store was very crowded.

I'll go ahead and drop the Cloud Hair on those that still want it when I log in later today.
