My network keeps crashing and someone told me it's because SL demands too much. I was told to "make sure that the P2P apps are adjusted to allow a certain amount of connections" but I have no idea what that means, lol. Can any kind soul help me???

How does a network crash from too much information? Does it all just bottle neck and get sent at a specific data rate/speed?
The only time i have heard of a person having network problems like that is on the original slow DSL lines from way back when. _____________________

Do you have an old network set up from like late 90's?

I had just this problem. I had (and have) Verizon FiOs but after a while in-world my whole network would go down. I had to power off and on the router box to make it work again. I called up the support geeks and they told me that my router box (that they had given me when I signed up) wasn't man enough for that sort of high, sustained traffic, so I changed it for another that I bought at BestBuy and it's been fine ever since.

What router box did you buy? Cause that's what i have to do, power down the Netgear and then power it back up until it disconnects again!!

LOL you're asking me? I think it was a LinkSys - it had two little antennae on it.

I had a D-Link router (624 I think) that would crash after about 1 or 2 hours of SL running through it. I had to power it down and back up to get anything to flow through it again. I replaced it with a Linksys and have not had any problems since then. I didn't change any P2P settings on either router.

I had a Linksys cable modem/wireless router device that did exactly the same thing. Anything that put much stress on the network connection and it froze up requiring a reboot.

Second Life isn't much "stress" on a network. It was enough to crash the Linksys box. _____________________

some older routers just can't handle sustained traffic... and/or will crash from overheating too (see this even more with some crappy cable modems). first make sure it's getting lots of air flow and not next to other hot things.

It's either crap or defective. In either case it should be replaced. even good equipment can overheat if not properly ventilated (ok there's an argument to be made for faulty design principle, but it applies to pretty much every commercial router made) _____________________

the actiontec supplied router is causing the problem.
