SLURLS not working?

When I click on an SLURL in an article I am reading (Linden Lifestyles, etc), the SLURL website map opens. Buth when I click on either "visit this location" or "teleport now," my in-world screen does not open the map, with the location marked, for me to tp to. I end up having to type the name of the sim, and the sim coordinates into the inworld map, and search. It happens with both Nicholaz viewers: Eye Candy and Bleeding Edge. And yes, I have the most recent versions (as of 5/15/08). I know the SLURL feature used to work. And now it doesn't.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is it a Havok 4 thing? Or do I have something else wrong? And I always wondered what was the difference between "visit this location" and "teleport now." Both of them did exactly the same thing, which was to open the map. I was never instantly teleported.

Thanks,

Sadly it used to work for me too :(, now when I click one the crash logger pops up, it doesn't matter if SL is running or not, and SL itself doesn't crash or get the map or anything...

Did this just start today? I use Nicholaz BE-w (for 1.18.5.3). When I click a slurl, it opens a landmark for me and I can either click Teleport or Show on Map.

As recommended by Nicholaz on 5/20/08, I use the following two viewers:

• Eye Candy: current official viewer 1.19.1.4
• Bleeding Edge: 1.18.5.3

I downloaded his most recent versions on 5/15/08.

this has been going on for several days that I am aware of. I don't know if it started before or after I downloaded new clean copies to be sure I was up to date.

Anyone else having this problem?

It sounds like you've lost your filetype association for the SLURLs.

I haven't discovered what's causing the problem yet - probably some progam (quicktime, shockwave, flash?) thats being updated is stealing the SLURL filetype association.

The best way to correct the problem is to re-install the SL Viewer. That (so far) re-establishes the file association for the SLURLs.

This problem might be caused by a conflict introduced by installing or uninstalling the RC viewer.

If you've installed either the standard viewer or RC viewer at its default location (typically in C:\Program Files), then you can try to set the registry entries from the zip file below:

http://targetomega.com/sl/dist/slurl_fix_20070301.zip

View the README.txt file on how to apply the fix. Let me know if it worked (or not.) :)

Now I'm confused. Rooke and Papillion appear to give conflicting advice.

Rooke says to reinstall the viewer.

Papillion says installing/reinstalling viewer could be what caused the problem.

So which fix do I try?

And Papillion, the direction are for file location
Standard Viewer:
C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe

I have more than one SL folder, and each contains different versions of the SL viewer. One if for Nicholaz Bleeding Edge viewer, and one is for his Eye Candy viewer. Both use older versions of the SL viewer.

So I'm really not sure what to do/try. Don't want to make the problem worse.

Anyone out there using Nicholaz that can provide some input? Or do Rooke or Papillion have more advice, based on the info I just provided?

I had the same problem, I had more than one different viewer on my puter, but when I unstalled all bar the main one I was unable to use the slur, it stopped working. I was given that link and unzipped the slur fix for main viewer and after that slurs worked for my main viewer again.

If you only have one viewer, my solution works. But since you have more than one viewer, you should follow Papillion's advice.

Most users don't have more than one viewer, so I gave the advice for that.

Edit: I was composing my earlier post (#5) while you had already entered post #4. I didn't know you had multiple viewers at that time.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. :o

It didn't fix the problem. Grrr... This is a real pain not to have SLURs working. I rely heavily on them.

Any other ideas, short of uninstalling and reinstalling EVERYTHING? Which I really don't want to do.

Sorry Princess, but that's about all thats left. :( It's a lot easier than having you dig around in the Windows registery by hand.

When you re-install, do it one viewer at a time - in the order of least used viewer to most used view. See if the SLURL works for each viewer you install, before you install the next viewer.

Install just the Second Life client, or the Nicholaz viewer as well, for each version?

I have 4 versions of SL installed and 2 versions of Nicholaz. I installed them in this order:

1) LL 1.18.5.3 and I overrode the folder name for install and put the Nicholaz BE-w in here

2) 1.19.0.5 and I overrode the folder on this one also since it is still supported by LL but not the current Official release.

3) 1.19.1.4 and I overrode the folder name on this and I put the Nicholaz EC-f version in here also.

4) 1.20.8.xxx installed into the default folder name of SecondLifeReleaseCandidate
