Hi, I'm getting into the SL DJ thing sometime soon, and I already downloaded IceCast...I heard that a few places in SL will only let you DJ if you have it, instead of just the Winamp Shoutcast DSP plugin.

Is that all I'll need to stream .mp3s from my computer, into SL...Winamp, IceCast and a ShoutCast server?

Maybe I'm confused here though. Are they "the same"? ...or does:

IceCast = "local" server-load broadcasting from MY computer

and

WinAmp + ShoutCast DSP Plugin + ShoutCast Server (Hosted) = 100% remote server broadcasting (from THIER machine, not mine)

I want to go the route of complete SERVER-side, remote braodcasting of course...a short conversation w/ a musician who had to log off quick, left me with this question. I DJing in SL is pretty easy to set-up, as long as you're willing to pay for a ShoutCast Server.

Icecast is a streaming media SERVER just as Shoutcast. Both still require a client with which to stream the music.... Winamp + Shoutcast Plugin would be your client.

What you are probably told most clubs required a DJ to use was SAM Broadcasting. It's a DJ software for streaming to an Icecast or Shoutcast Server. You can find it at
