I was starting to look at 512 sqm parcels in the land search.
I clicked teleport and the parcel said 512 sqm in the about land dialog area field. It looked like a 16 sqm parcel.
The parcel next to it appears to be the same size and shows 16 sqm.
If memory serves, parcels can be non-contiguous. How would you know where the rest of the parcel is?
This isn't some sort of bug with the wrong area showing for a parcel, is it?

I would zoom back, and do about land so it highlights the land and see where the rest of it highlights on the sim

If you found a parcel that looks like it's 16m but it said 512m then odds are very good that there is a parcel that looks like it's 512m but has a 16m size hole in the center. This is what we discussed in the past when we found sellers were sticking a house on the supposed 512 so the hole wouldn't be visible. Later the buyer would be surprised when someone decided to stick an ad farm in the middle of their land.
Extortionist ad farms are gone now and this would be a form of extortion with or without ads, but there's probably a few left around. As for how to tell where the rest of the land is, all you can do I believe is click about land and hope the rest of it is nearby to see it. There may be another way and someone will come by and correct me. _____________________

Well, it may or may not be extortion, but unless there's an explanation in the land description, it's certainly deceptive. (I can imagine some poor bastard stuck with an abandoned ad plot carved out of his 512, trying to make it marketable as a 512 to match bonus land size, but the buyer would still be screwed if it wasn't made clear that the parcel wasn't contiguous.)

See http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-920 for a proposed new feature remedy for this. I actually just voted for it. Even with adfarms dead and dying, this remains a problem. It got my vote. Thanks for writing it so that the land sale is more transparent rather than trying to outlaw the donut hole sales. That would have opened a entirely new can of worms. _____________________
