Those of you who have Class 5 sims, will you make the switch to Class 4 Sims and save $100 USD/month? If you own a class 4 sim (which has a rather busy club for instance) and later on you bought a class 5 sim (for rentals for instance) then it would make sense to swap the club (from class 4 to 5) with the rentals sim (from class 5 to 4) but you'll still end up paying $490/month no matter what. --- The second option is the way you stated: you could upgrade the class 4 to class 5 and end up paying $590/month (for the previous club+rentals example). One thing to note is that if you bought your sim post-"price increase announcement" then you probably already have a class 5 (at grandfathered pricing) since they had very few class 4 left towards the end. |

So you SAVE 100usd for downgrading? I did not get that from the blog and do not have the slightest idea why downgrading is a good idea at all...UNLESS there is a plan to charge more soon.

Right, my reading of it was that there is no "downgrade" path, saving money. You can swap one-for-one, but can not downgrade.

As Kitty said, that isn't how it works.
You can upgrade a class 4 to a class 5, and pay $100 USD more per month for the better server. You can swap a class 4 with a cass 5, if you own BOTH. They charge you $100 for the swap, and when done the sim that was on the class 4 server is now on the class 5, with its billing date, and the sim that was on the class 5 is now on the class 4, with the former class 4 billing date. There is no "downgrade only" option. The only advantage to swapping, in my opinion, is that if you have a bunch of sims and some are class 4 and some are class 5, you could sort a few out to make all the nearby ones the same type. Might be useful if you're getting ready to dump a bunch of class 5's that include a few class 4's, and you want to sell them as all class 5, while keeping the cheaper servers for yourself. _____________________

I doubt very firmly that downgrade is an option. I do, too. For those island owners currently on class 4, from the start of February you will be able to request an upgrade to class 5 hardware. If you choose to upgrade, the monthly billing for that island will move to the current level of USD$295 per month, charged on the same bill date as you have currently. There will be no downgrade option I’m afraid, and this only applies to private islands. _____________________

with watching LL for almost a year, this offer kinda smells.. why would they allow a class switch between 4 and 5 for $100? extra income for what reason this sudden offer? my guts say that class 4 will be removed in the very near future, it`s a last milk attempt _____________________

i think they will harmonize their price structure........all Class 4 one rate all Class 5 another. The few grandfathered Class 5's will see a price increase, leaving just the genuine 4's at a lower rate.

Maybe towards the end of the year. (edit: unless Havok4 or MONO happens soon and something about one of them is a _lot_ happier with class 5 hardware) This is something that a number of people have asked for. If they offered it without charging anything, everybody would want to upgrade. |
