Phantom zombie statue avatar

Anyone else encounter this problem?

I was playing around with the Windlight viewer two days ago when the client crashed. No surprises there, it *is* test software after all :) But then, when I tried to log back in I just kept getting error messages.

After a few tries I logged in with an alt to find my avatar back where I left him but he was stood there motionless and unresponsive like some zombie statue! It gets better.... I tried 'bumping' him into another region (heh, I'm desperate I'll try anything) and now he's turned into a phantom zombie statue! He's still stuck there inworld, blinking but unresponsive, but now you can walk right through him!

I have put in a ticket and been reassured (inaccurately) that all was well. Anyone else encounter this oddness? If it carries on much longer I'll post the location and we can all have a 'Thriller' party!

Hi Partokus,

Your alt could try and send you an IM. That might get the grid to notice you're not there, if that makes sense.

Good luck! :)

Quickly runs to put an Ulrika doll next to Patroklus and a Caledon Kilt on his avatar...

...ducks and runs!

(yeah, try the IM thing actually that should unstick you)

You could always request a Region Restart. That should remove the "ghost avatar".

Dude, you are a true and good friend, and I love you like the brother that my mom claims she never had, but you are in fact acting like a flaming douche on white toast with a side order of dickknob salsa..maybe you should reconsider this course of action and we go find something else to do.

Thanks for your responses.

I'll try sending an IM again. I did send one the other day but that was before I 'bumped' my av out of the region.

I'll try requesting the region restart as well though I'm on the mainland and I thought region restarts were for estate owners only. No harm in trying I suppose.

/me notes Desmond's naughty idea and plans suitable retribution involving the Colonia Nova roman baths, the Neufreistadt football team and a tub of hot chocolate sauce! :)

To clarify:
An Estate Owner can restart thier own sim, so they do not need Linden assistance in this.

Premium Members can do this through a Live Chat session. I beleive there is also a page through the My Account part of the website dealing with the lands for a Region Restart, but I have always simply used the Live Chat.

Nope, you can ask for a mainland region to be started with no problem. It's just that estate owners have the ability to do it themselves.

I would recommend requesting it through live chat, as tickets can be somewhat slow. Usually the Linden will come out to see you, poke you with various amusing objects (just kidding ;) ), then restart the region or do something else to unstick your av.

Do you know how to get to live chat in the support portal? You need to go through the "Solution Finder". After about 4-5 steps, you'll be given the live chat links.

There's two kinds of "ghosted avies":

* one (used to be?) is when an avatar was ejected/left but was still visible to people who were already there but new people wouldn't see him/her, this one does take a sim restart. The stuck avie could still be in-world though, or can just log in normally.

* the other is where the sim won't log you off and you can't log back on. All it takes to "fix" this is to have the sim/parcel owner force tp you home, or failing that a Linden can do it for you

For the other people who are in the sim it would friendlier to ask a Linden to force tp you home rather than to restart the sim :).

Thanks for the advice, that was really helpful. I've had two Live Chats and they've "referred it to developers" as apparently they need the good juju to get me off the grid and able to log back in again (that's one damn sticky av!)

I'm having the same problem now. I crashed when crossing a sim and now a ghost has been there for hours. If I go near the sim I fuse with my ghost, get stuck and need to relog. Then same story from the beginning. Residents who live there told me about it. I didn't even know - everything appears normal as long as I don't go there. TP back home won't work because "it" is stuck on a Linden parcel. Now the residents shot "it" over to another sim (wich a push weapon) but nothing helps. I sent a ticket already, but I'm only basic, so I don't know how much time this will take. The regions are Hardknott, Mowry and now Scafell. It moves over sim boarders with no problem but stays!! It has my name, shape, and can be clicked and IMed.... Since noones owns that land what can I do? Just wait? I'm afraid of attaching and detaching anything. Don't want to loose hair and legs.:(

WOOT sims were restarted and the ghost is dead!! Thanks to the people on the "scene" who helped, and to Leo Linden for killing my evil twin.

What reason do we have to think that you aren't the evil twin?

I can see it now, Leo Linden there trying to decide who to kill and who to let live, you saying that you are evil twin and to let the other one live, knowing that Leo will think you are using reverse psychology on him, him looking back and forth, you pulling the "look there's a pink bunny!" trick on him while you switch places with the real Monalisa...

Leo thinking, "I could just kill them both, then there wouldn't be any complaints possible", then he decides to keep the evil one like he's done all the other times this problem comes up.

Yup... I should have crashed on a camp pad... hmmm 4 hours? :) My ghost was being counted as a person on the map so in theory I created traffic. People could send me IMs, open my profile and even give me inventory thru that ghost. So I suppose I could also have recieved money. She had all attachments in place (I have many) just the skin was missing image. My ghost was physical (not ghosted) and could be pushed around. It was a real avatar by any means. This is really creepy!

I wish there was a way to do this on purpose -- might be useful in clothing and attachment construction!

Believe me, you DON'T want it. As soon as you go near your twin (same sim or neighboring sim, probably sims on the same server?) you fuse with your twin, freeze and crash. It is not fun to know that people see you frozen in their backyard, unresponsive, or relating to totally different things (because the real you is somewhere else not knowing about your twin). I almost got ARed. It's a bad bug, please fix it.
