hello, new to camping but not sl. Every time I go camping, i see av's that have been sitting for a while earning money. I sit for a half hour an I get kick out of my seat. Why does this happen, and how can I sit for a long as other?

Thanks

Haven't camped in a really long time, so I'm kinda out of the loop.

But, are you talking kicked off the chair or out of SL? If out of SL get an anti-idler. Out of the seat, then something is forcing you to stand up. Could be on your person or coded to the chair.

If on a PC press ctrl + alt + d to bring up the Client/server menu ..

Then Client/Character/Character Tests .. and uncheck Go Away/AFK when Idle ..

You should be able to stay logged in 24/7 without any scripts.

For getting booted off, you need to find bot software that re-sits u every x amount of time. its the only way sadly. as for SL, you can find an anti idle orb, wear it & u wont get logged out

The kick-off is an optional setting that comes with most camping equipment, included in the script. You set the time in minutes until the kick-off takes place. It's a way for camping-set owners to save some money when the camper gets away from keyboard and isn't aware of that he/she is kicked off, until he/she clicks the camping unit to start it again. You get so to speak 'free traffic' on your land during the time the camper isn't camping but stands on your land, that's it. Getting traffic is the reason for offering camping and the longer you can get it without paying for it, the better. Camping is rather expensive stuff. To offer a camping unit that pays out L$ 2 every 10 minutes, costs L$ 8760 a month if the camping unit is used all the time. On the other hand you get traffic in return for that and thus more visitors on your land and your ads in search get higher up in the list and are easier to find. Usually it's more attractive to the campers to set a higher pay out amount for the camping unit and add regular kick-offs than to set a lower pay out amount without kick-offs as that's the choice the owner has. If kick-offs wouldn't be an option, you'd all see camping units that generally payed out a lower amount of Lindens.

some of those chairs are set to hold the 'members' of that place, while 'non-members' have time limits.

Yeah, that's a good way of making PR for your land as group members need to wear a group tag when they camp, which they after camping sometimes tend to forget to take off or deactivate, which gives you free publicity as they walk around like living advertising signs for your place.

A friend who sometimes camps and I were discussing this kick off thing last night. Neither of us were sure what the thinking was behind it, but now that you explain, I see why, and I think it's rather sad. I'm not a fan of camping, but to cheat these people out of their time in the name of saving a few L is just incredibly greedy. If you want their traffic, you should pay for it.

I can understand your point very well but I'd like to ask if you would you prefer to camp for a lower amount per minute instead of a slighty higher amount and get kicked off a couple of times per hour? That's the choice the camping set owner has. I don't think that offering camping is a rip off as it's rather expensive for the land owner as I said previously. If kick-offs wouldn't be allowed, you'd see less camping offered generally in SL and lower amounts payed out, which would mean about the same result both for land owners and campers. You wouldn't earn more totally if you got payed less when camping than you would do if you were payed more and got kicked off the camping unit now and then instead. Camping or not camping is a free choice, if you find it worth it or not. Personally I think it's a good way for noobs to earn their first L$. It was for me anyway and I didn't complain. In fact, noone's forcing you to camp. I used to ask myself the same questions you do now though. But I mean, camping while you're vacuum cleaning or whatever at home irl and then being disappointed when you come back to the computer and find yourself kicked off the camping unit, isn't really serious.

We could wish for a world without camping units and more realistic competition instead but as long as it's allowed and some land owners use it, all others have to as well, from a competition perspective. Thinking about it, a SL without any camping at all would be rather bad for all noobs who really need this and want this. So I choose to applaud camping and I think it should remain. All things in SL don't have to be like rl. Camping excists in this virtual world and I don't see why it couldn't. I think it's rather refreshing to see a bunch of campers in an otherwise dead looking area, on the other hand too many camping spots in one place just look ridiculous.

To camp a kick or a not kick

The economy truly has collapsed when we are discussing the relative merits of per hour camping.

The funny thing is, while you may think this will "save camping" in reality it won't. As my friend stated, he just wants to put his AV on a camper and go to bed. The fact it kicks him off after 30 min, mean, he would only get paid for 30 min, and yet the owner would get 8-10 hours worth of traffic. As a result, he avoids such camping places, as they force the person to actually be at the keyboard. So from his perspective at least, I think he would rather see less per hour than this kicking nonsense. If it gets to the point where everyone has this kicking off going on, it will be the death of camping. Ironic, killed by it's own proponents. :)

I have 4 fishing/camping chairs on my property that do require the person to pay attention. The main reason I do this is so the money has a better chance of going to a noob that needs it rather than some bot or someone gaming my generosity.

Amazingly even though the payout offered is more than a typical camping chair, they are rarely used. I see it as a responsible way of giving money to noobs or poor players in general while getting a small boost in traffic.
