Oh noes, "across the street" seems to have been taken over by a domain squatter! Did I miss an announcement, or did Cris miss a renewal?

Some people can get in, some can't. It's very strange.

That happens because DNS takes a while to propagate. It does indeed look like Cris lost the domain.

Yeah, I can't get in either. Does this mean that all of the priceless pearls of wisdom I have posted there are lost forever???

More importantly, are the barbarian hordes at the frontiers, waiting to cut a swathe across this, our fair and green land? :eek:

Looks like someone just forgot to renew which isn't a disaster since most registrars will give you a few extra days. In fact it looks like it's already been renewed at eNom's:

Chalice has a fix, which works for me:
From: someone

Edit C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Add an entry:
CODE
74.208.13.68 sluniverse.com
74.208.13.68 www.sluniverse.com
And your Windows installation will take the entry from that hosts file for DNS lookups on sluniverse.

Linux has it in /etc/hosts
That is, I can now log in using the old address.

Remember to undo that when everything is back to normal or you'll have a very hard time figuring out why you can't go to SLU if the IP ever changes in the future :).

Nah, if he lost the domain he'd still have all the forum history to move to a new domain.
